Awesome. I sold mine and have been looking for another ever since. Great jacket, looks great on you.

Thanks! I was a bit apprehensive about whether the crosszip style could work for me but the investment to find out was minimal. Chalk this up to an eBay steal, with a special thanks to @ton312 for providing some encouragement to pull the trigger.

Well, good you did 'cause it's ridiculous you just hit bin on Ebay and end up with one of the most perfect cross zip jackets I've seen on this forum and elsewhere. Seriously endgame piece for you.

Haha, thanks! Not really in a position for a lot of the big guns seen here such as LW (could, but wouldn't be the best decision). Fortunately with a smaller frame the used vintage market is where I tend to focus. Build quality isn't the same but with some patience I've managed to find some gems that punch above their weight.

I actually broke one of my rules in that the seller's photos were crap, but I could see the Bates pull so I went ahead and BIN'd it. Main reason being the price was ridiculously low, so minimal risk with huge upside. Probably my best value eBay find ever.

I strongly believe that Bates actually makes some of the best jackets on the market, vtg or otherwise. I'd grade them right at LW's level with a slight edge in the design and functionality of the jacket and considerably above Langlitz, Schott and even Vanson so what you got there is a top tier contender. Hide is their weakest point nowadays but a good older Bates is unmatched. Like yours is. I mean, your jacket's even got the tea core effect so... Even if you paid big money for this, it would've been a score. Fits you insanely well.

Okay guys, I need you to be as honest as possible right now 'cause a choice has to be made. Lost more weight and... I don't know, the jacket feels okay but I'm sure what it looks like. So, too big? Classifieds? Or do I keep it? I don't really care one way or the other, to be honest. It's my favorite jacket but if it isn't meant to be... That's life.

Arms are on the full side, but the body still fits great. Overall, it's a keeper if I'm you.

Looks good, you have some space to layer or gain more weight!

TBH I don’t see anything wrong with that fit. It could’ve been tighter sure, but it’s nowhere near looking big on you.

I can't believe I'm saying this...but keep it. Still looks great. Plus it gets cold in your neck of the woods. Now stop losing weight, you are going to disappear. I will FedEx some Cuban empanadas, fatten you up.

IMO you are starting to get "the fold" in the the back on the left side.
That happens when a jacket is too large, not filled and is folding on itself.
I have somethig similar going on with my Legendary USA J-24:

XAsVBcZ.jpg

Admitedly, it's much less pronounced in your case, but it is still there.
IMO a well fitting jacket shoudln't do that.
You live in a place where it gets cold, so it would make sens to keep it if it allows you to layer in a way that your 42 doesn't, but if you can still layer in the 42 i would not keep it. (unless you keep it for the same reason i keep the brown J-24...)
Saying that, who knows if you gain the weight back, you might be happy to have it in a few years if you are back at your original weight.
