Borsalino Qualita Superiore

View attachment 240168

This Borsalino Qualita Superiore made for Portuguese market is the thinnest lightest weight Unlined felt hat I have ever handled. Super soft thin moldable felt with a 2 in brim and a mid ribbon.

Because the hat was originally sold at Teo The English Outfitters in Gibraltar I suspected the 6 3/4 sizing on the tag may well be UK sizing. It does appear by fit that is the case.

I was expecting from the photos a project hat that was going to need a deep cleaning as it appeared to be covered in some type of fungus. However I was able to remove most of it with a very heavy brushing.

It is a super comfortable and very sleek and stylish hat that is a pleasure to wear.

Good job cleaning it up! It looks great now. You can be surprised how much a good brushing can help a dirty old hat.

If you have residual smell or the "mold" comes back you might consider a white gas/naphtha bath. I had a nice suit hanging in a closet several year ago... problem was it was up against an outside wall in an old building with zero insulation. In the NW, that means nasty black mold. When I pulled the suit out I thought it was ruined. It was completely permeated with mold all over and inside the jacket and on the slacks. I took it to a dry cleaner and they made it like new. Dry cleaning, at least in the past, used naphtha a lot for cleaning suits, slacks, dresses and shirts that would otherwise be ruined washing with soap and water.

Thanks Doug.. luckily no smell at all. I’m thinking whatever it was dried up dead and allowed it to be brushed up and out. Being black maybe helped. I was figuring it was probably going to need a sponge cleaning at least.. if not naphtha. But got real lucky. Some of it I needed to get aggressive with and use some varied brushing techniques to get in and get it out. But I’m ecstatic with the results

If it comes back. I guess gas it is.

amazing you were able to save that suit!

This might be the wrong forum to ask this on, but how do you folks post pictures? I used to use tapatalk to upload photos but now that it's kicked off fedora lounge I can't. The fedora lounge website wont allow me to upload anything. No matter what I do I always get errors saying file or picture size is too large. I kept hoping the tapatalk thing was only temporary and I haven't been on here much in the mean time. But it seems like the outage is permanent.

You have to crop your photos so they aren't so large. I use my cell the same as I use my laptop at home.

I assume you are clicking the “upload an image” button In the reply box and then browsing to your photo. Maybe if your photos are too large to upload you may need to resize them smaller. Though it does usually allow to upload fairly large files. There is also sometimes when the photos are larger an option to “select size”. With options for small medium large or original. I usually select large. As sometime uploading full size images can slow, things down. I hope that helps

Shelta Seahawk today. Great fishing/hiking/hot weather golf hat. Unlike most boonies it has a fixed front brim. Dries quickly and floats. While I prefer a vintage fedora, these are a perfect fit for certain occasions. Camp hair, don't care....

I only have the two full brimmed summer hats - both Bailey paper - and both saw action today. First a trip to the local(ish) craft beer brewery where I had coffee while my wife knocked back a couple. Back home channeling my inner Jedi in my jinbei (Japanese summer clothing) and getting my own back with an excellent IPA.

This is a Nitro Cold Brew coffee that comes out of a beer tap and is pretty damn good!

Impressive Steve! A hat that is as pretty on the inside as out. Love the liner and sweat stamps. That brim is to die for!

It is always great to have these grab and go straws. I have a Capas Bogart like this that is my daily walk hat. Love it!

Way to put lipstick on the porcine hat Bob! Doing your own Optimo is definitely a skill I would like to master.

It makes you wonder about the kind of guy in c1959 who wandered into the hat shop and was drawn to that ribbon. Absolutely cool colorway on that high end Stetson. Nice find.

Perfect Bill, just perfect.

If I put a leash and dog collar on will you take ME for walks in these spectacular hats?
Yes, I'm pretty much all about grab and go these days, Red.

It has been warm and sunny all week, but for the next few days, we have some felt weather. Not cold, but too wet for straw. Drive by Graduation Party for a friend's daughter today. Venturing out of the Casa Covid in my Borsalino Featherweight. Grabbed a quick few images from the archives. I'm not presentable yet, only 2 cups of coffee as of this post.

Nice looking Featherweight, Red. Put me in the mood for today's hat.

Thanks,
Michael
