Great looking Marathon today Michael... I swear I had already planned wearing mine when I saw yours. :D LOL. I can’t however say @Randall Renshaw ‘s gills ribbon didn’t influence my decision :)

Thanks Hoe. I'll buy that. They do look to be the same era by the labeling. I like those gills on yours. Like it all around actually. I haven't found many hats with gills around here. Randall's Champ with gills was a fine looking hat, too.

Thanks,
Michael

The city decided to not mow any of the green spaces in the city this year.....? Boulevards, parks all of it. So I back onto a green space my kids play volleyball, frizzy, climb trees. Grass is already over knee high so I took my lawn mower to it. 6 hours later it looks good and usable. Didn’t even cost $5 in gas. But hot work deserves a hot weather hat.

Today...here’s one that hasn’t seen the light of day here. Not my usual fare.
Was taking pics to show my daughter to give to a girlfriend for her birthday. Nice girl, only one i know that wears a black top hat, black clothes and leathers and wears them well.
A total sweetie pie....needs a real hat.
(I will require pics for you all) lol
Be well.
Bowen

Actually, that’s one fine looking hat!
Mighty sharp on you, too.

Went on a much needed road trip down to see Mike Miller at NW Hats today. He is doing well, busy as usual. He didn't miss a beat when the 'Rona shut everything down. We had a great visit, talking hats, gardening, and just catching up. Came up with a plan for my new custom, which is only a couple of weeks away. I was already up in the queue when he sent me a message about a "special" felt body he thought I would be interested in...yes please! It will be kept a State Secret until the big unveiling. Wore a competitor's hat, the Black Sheep Hat Works Silver belly I talked Bill Hughes out of. Mike always gets a kick out of what I wear into the shop.

Echter Borsalino possibly mid to later 1950s. Only small remnants of the paper label survived so no model or color. The original Sweatband shriveled up when I was wearing the hat on a hot day (Joe, This is the hat I mentioned.). The Sweatband was replaced by Optimo Chicago back in 2013. Unfortunately Optimo Chicago decided to only refurbish Optimo branded hats back in 2016.

I do see a theme - great hats for variable weather. The pugs on the straw hats are keen.
Thanks, Eric!

View attachment 240106 Starting to sprinkle. Gotta get back inside and work on some hats that I need to sell, anyway.

Mid 40s Dobbs. This one seems to only like being worn on the slant.

Great looking Dobbs, Randall. I would that one if I were you.

Pallas possibly mid 1950s. No company mark but great Felt and Form.

Great looking hat, Steve. I can honestly say I haven't seen that brand before.

Stefan, Great series! Actually your Peschel is German. After WWII Anton Peschel started up again in Dinkelsbühl, Germany.
Thank you, Steve. I realised later that Peschel is indeed one of those renegade brands that would fit under two countries.

Borsalino Qualita Superiore

View attachment 240168

This Borsalino Qualita Superiore made for Portuguese market is the thinnest lightest weight Unlined felt hat I have ever handled. Super soft thin moldable felt with a 2 in brim and a mid ribbon.

View attachment 240169

View attachment 240170 View attachment 240171 View attachment 240176 View attachment 240174

Because the hat was originally sold at Teo The English Outfitters in Gibraltar I suspected the 6 3/4 sizing on the tag may well be UK sizing. It does appear by fit that is the case.
View attachment 240178 View attachment 240177

I was expecting from the photos a project hat that was going to need a deep cleaning as it appeared to be covered in some type of fungus. However I was able to remove most of it with a very heavy brushing.

View attachment 240179

It is a super comfortable and very sleek and stylish hat that is a pleasure to wear.

A happy hat for sure, Joe. Lazarus would be a good name for it (would fit with Borsalino quite well: Borsalino Lazzaro).

Nice catch, Brent. I like those western styles with the flattened brim.

I only have the two full brimmed summer hats - both Bailey paper - and both saw action today. First a trip to the local(ish) craft beer brewery where I had coffee while my wife knocked back a couple. Back home channeling my inner Jedi in my jinbei (Japanese summer clothing) and getting my own back with an excellent IPA. View attachment 240254

Very cool colour, Randall. Can't be that many around like that.

Another big event today, I had an actual doctors appointment. A real shot in the arm! No really, a shot of cortisone in the arm! Been in pain since lock down, the steroid helps for a while, but my shoulder is pretty much toast. Dressed up in a double breasted suit jacket and a c.1950 Mossant Diplomatique (homburg, but with a cool French name). Unlined with incredible vintage felt feel. Just something about European hats that is well, "continental" in feel.

Hückel Weilheim Hat Holders made by Zeitler - Karton, Murnau / Oberbayern possibly early to later 1950s. The Hückel plates on the fronts are made of a tin like metal and possibly hand painted. The company moved to Murnau in 1949 and are still in business today.

Just a little nudge and it replaces the blue marathon from the top of your finest hats list, Michael.

Yesterday afternoon I debuted this rescue hat, a Fantom Hat Works of unknown provenance. It needed a bath an a new sweatband (which you can tell is of high quality by the gold stripe). A bit of a lower crown, and a mid-ribbon design akin to the Stetson Wanderer. But it's unlined and should be a good summer lid. Very lightweight with a nice, smooth, hand.

View attachment 240748 View attachment 240747 View attachment 240746

I like how thwy used an asterisk to refer to the "Registered" mark. I don't know why. View attachment 240749

You can barely make out the Fantom logo imprinted on the crown tip.

You'd think that Fantom hats would cater for men OUT of this world!

Fine looking panama, Perry.

Gorgeous Dobbs, Max.

You do the stingies so well, Joe.

Dobbs Cross Country

View attachment 240879

A very neat new arrival. This one came off a tip from @TheOldFashioned.

The Dobbs Cross Country a very thin light weight unlined hat.

This one had a cool back story. It had belonged to a woman who in the 1930s rode in dressage competitions against the men and won! She was a very proud tiny woman who loved to speak of the memories of her great adventures until her passing. This was how she kept the hat shaped and along with a chin strap she had made to use it for riding

View attachment 240878

I opened up the crown and reshaped it a bit into more of a fedora shape. There of course is a bit of memory from the pork pie shape she had it.. but it did shape fairly well. I’m sure some steam would help.

View attachment 240881

The crown is 5 3/8
The Ultra thin raw brim is 2 3/4 front 2 5/8 sides.
The grosgrain mid ribbon is 1 inch

View attachment 240893 View attachment 240892 View attachment 240891 View attachment 240894

And now for the bad news... unfortunately while I was looking under the sweat for the manufacturing tag.... the back half of the sweat popped its stitching. While the sweat was very soft and malleable.. This potentially 80 year old sweat is Almost paper thin and tore at the stitches like a zipper. The back side of the sweat was powdery. So I guess this one will need a new sweat at some point.

Mayser's "Supra", date stamped 11/14/50. I really like the Form of this hat with a heavy dose of Brim Flange.

Great colours on that one!

Good Morning Fellas.

Any ideas on this Churchill Panama ? Got it for dirt cheap on shopgoodwill. I liked the colorful band, thinking it would be cool for the beach or pool, but man, what a crazy brim on this thing. Just a big floppy mess. Took me a lot of time and steam just to get it like this, and don’t know if it really fits the hat. It’s not supposed to be a girl’s sun hat is it ?

I like it the way you've shaped it, Tim. A gambler shape would work as well, I think. And if it's a girls hat after all, whu not get in touch with your feminine side?
