Hello all,

I purchased and received today this Borsalino Gran Lusso Homburg in a size 60. Below is a Google share drive of photos.

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=1dvnaSFEv57SAQJiILOH8aDLLpRwlzLpF

The hat is absolutely new old stock. It has the retailers sale tag and the stitching on the ribbon that would protect it when hats would have been stacked on top of it and removed when sold.

It is labeled as an Italian punti 7, but the retailer labeled it as a size 60, which is probably the actual size. It is from Germany. The model of the hat is Gulaela and the paper tag under the sweatband dates it approximately 1954 to 1960. It does not have a color on the paper tag but it is black.

Link to my review of the hat in the Borsalino Brotherhood thread:

https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/the-borsalino-brotherhood.13133/page-398#post-2687038

The hat is too large for me. I wear my hats and I don't have space to keep hats that do not fit. I could add something behind the sweatband to make it fit but I would prefer not to.

I wear a 7 1/4 in modern hats, and I can wear most vintage 7 1/4 hats but I find 7 3/8 vintage hats to be a better fit.

I would like to offer this hat in trade for something similar that will fit me. Considering the condition and size this is a nice hat I am offering.

I am looking for a vintage homburg, preferably a Borsalino, but I am willing to consider others.

Bonus points if the hat is shapeable, as in you can pinch the crown, or change the center dent to a triangle. I prefer a brim that follows the D'Orsay style of bowlers/derbies. A brim similar to this hat I am offering for trade.

I see a lot of beautiful hats that go into collections, perhaps you have one that will fit me and this one will fit you!

Not really interested in selling at this time.

Thank you for your interest!

James

This is a real nice Cavanagh Homburg, size 7-3/8 LO. Not a real soft, maleable felt, though. It is creased in a diamond.

A punti 7 is actually 61cm hat size. Borsalino runs small in my experience so this might actually still fit someone like me.

Unfortunately, all my hats are 7-1/8 (wife and daughter), 7-3/8 LO and 7-1/2 at home.

A punti 7 is a 61. Yes. The hat is labeled by the retailer (the hat shop selling it) as a 60. As Borsalino's tend to run small, the actual size of this hat is probably a 60 as the retailer labeled, not a 61. The sweat band has a black marker of 7 1/2 written on it on the inside. I forgot to take a picture of that which I can do Tuesday, I can add that to the google drive photos for reference, if my memory is correct.

I purchased this hat thinking it would be smaller than a 60. It is not.

If I add a strip of something inside the sweat band in the rear the hat fits me fine, but then the leather sweatband is all rippled and stuff. I would prefer not to wear it like that.

The thought occurs to me that there may be a way to attach something to the outside of the sweatband so it can maintain it's natural shape and allow the hat to fit me, but it also must be a non invasive method. Not glue for example.

Thank you for the offer, but the brim style is not what I am looking for. I prefer the D'Orsay style brims, where the curls on the sides are more pronounced versus the front and rear of the brim.

Your tape measurements showing 8-1/2" x 7" also indicate a size larger than 7-1/2 or 60. It's tagged by Borsalino as a 61 (Punti 7). I believe it's a 61.

That is why I posted the measurements, so there would be no guessing on the size of someone interested in making a trade.

I have no other way to verify the size other than that. But I don't want to advertise this hat as a 61, if it is slightly small as Borsalino tends to be. The retailer that originally was selling the hat marked it as a 60.

@Kuro are you interested in a sale if a trade doesn’t work out for you? I just have to ask.

We are listening............:eek::rolleyes:;):)

Sorry, I had a busy Monday.

I have typed so many responses to your question... I have instead decided to just cut to the chase.

I am not ready to just sell the hat. (This is why it took me so long to answer, too much typing of reasons that was not really answering the question.)

However, Yes I will sell the hat if this does not work out.
