Looking for some opinions.
Looking at pulling the trigger on a Sunbody fedora with the 3” brim.Now it seem VillageHatShop has one cheaper than what’s offered on sunbodys web page. Can anyone make comment on the differences? Is the more expensive ones worth the extra money? Looking for something in an Alan Grant Look (Jurassic park)

On the other note,

Has anyone compared results between using a heated sandbagger vs just steaming the brim and pressing a cold sandbag?

Both ways work well.....the heated sand just finishes quicker.......I have done both as I actually have a heated hat bag......it is a big piece of equipment!!!! I generally just use regular sand weights when using the flange....generally I can iron out a crown on a block.....though sometimes.....

In 1932 HCA was created with the merger of Cavanagh, Dobbs, Knox and Dunlap. At that time they began standardizing processes across the lines. The manufacturing tags As one example.

Does anyone know at what point they stopped manufacturing the separate brands at separate factories. And was there crossover of brands between the factories prior to closing factories.

As a complete hat newbie, I'm learning a lot here. Haven't gotten into vintage hats yet, so I've been confined to new "upper line" hats. For example Stetson Premier, Temple, Akubra Stratoliner, etc.

In the good old days, you'd buy your hat at a local store and they'd foil your name or initials on the inner hat band for you. How do you recommend marking ones hat in this day and age? I've just stuck a business card inside of some of mine, but keep thinking there must be a more elegant solution.

I don't bother really but a few of my hats from custom makers have stamped my initials in the leather sweat band, not embossed, not gold foiled, just 2 or 3 initials stamped into the leather sweat. You can buy the initialed stamps for cheap and imprint them yourself.

Not a bad idea at all. I hadn't even thought of something like that.

I've noticed a few hats shown that appear to have an oval shaped sticker or pin inside that appear to be initials.

I only have a few vintage hats, mostly modern customs so not familiar with these. I do have a few from one custom hatter that prints my initials with a gold foil machine. But I figure it is on my head so don't really get to see it and the only time (generally) that my hats are out of my view is when at friends or family.

They're little pins! Well, they might have also made stickers, but Steve (MayserWegener) kindly sent me these Stetson initials a while back:

I wouldn’t mind finding some of those. I’ve tried all kinds of search queries and have yet to find any. I did order a set of leather stamps this afternoon. Think I’m going to try belfastboy’s suggestion. Gonna try it on a beater first of course.

Yah the way they are in my 100 it's high enough on the sweat to where it's above the point of contact for my skull.

I put them on the 'adjustable' sweat slots to avoid punching through the sweat, which is how I assume they're meant to attach. Seems it would be pretty flush.
