The hat I wore to my daughter’s wedding some years back...

How are those sunbody hats in hot weather? Are they light and airy?

The previous responses echo my response to your question sir - the Sunbody is heavier than most milans and panamas. It is excellent at providing sun protection, bug protection (important in Minnesota summer) and being durable sweat resistant warm weather hats. I have dunked it many times the last week. I sweated hard wearing it when felling a big tree and cutting/brushing. Lawn chores, boat house chores and long hot/humid walkabouts have the hat showing no ill effects. I did take a small amount of dish soap and lightly brush the dirt and detris from the weave on the brim. No negative effect after rinsing and drying the hat. That is worth something! I think it will be a regularly worn warm weather work hat at my house. Totally worth the price, IMO.

It does not wear heavy as the synthetic sweatband is not uncomfortable. Not a bespoke hat with an airy leather sweat for certain. The band washes dirty and grime out easily. Dunk the band and it feels cool and not clamy against the forehead. I appreciated the cool water dripping down my forehead during my chainsaw work. As long as this post is getting long I should mention about the ability of the palm woven fibers to be dunked and soaked in water. It does soak up some water. The hat does feel heavier after dunking, but the resultant moist and cooler feeling on top of my bald head is excellent.

Would I wear it to events in public - no! I have panama hats (in different weave qualities) and milans that I would pick off my hat rack for public occasions. The finer weaves and "fancier" materials and appointments would be my preference. This is my first world choice. The Sunbody is not unacceptable for an evening social situation, but given finer choices it would dry out on a block that evening waiting for more wearing during the next days outside projects.

Thanks Eric. Maybe I should give it another look. I can use a good outside work hat and this seems like it might fit that bill. Although I would like to have a nice light Panama for other Summer activities.
