Cool dry day today , on the beach over by West Coast Highway , on the Indian Ocean.
Southern hemisphere winter , so no surfing for this little duck...( I can't surf anyways..)
Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban Balorama in black today , L 2870 80's made.
Not manipulated as this was a "cool day" car run to lunch.

Simmons Bilt J100 in black goat. Worn on today's Thursday Harley ride as the weekend and beyond has to be WET !
Talking in the photo , no wonder my male modelling days are well behind me at 61 haha..Coastal jaunt as usual.
Loving this jacket , and my only one with a 2 way zipper which is good on the bike.
Boots today are Lucchese Ropers in Black Buffalo.
Shades are Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban Baloramas, not manipulated. This was not going to be an out of town run.

Schott 673 steerhide jacket today, over at the HD dealer by truck as it was a rainy day ( a week of that to come !)
This is not a "biker jacket" per se as it has no zip sleeves. "Cool" jacket tho'..
This "Cholo" style custom built from a Harley Fatboy , is NOT my style.
Shades today are Persol 2569-S black wraps ( similar to but NOT the same as the Terminator 2 shades of legend !)

This is the Terminator Persol 58320 model (very very similar)
I have a brand new NOS pair of these in the collection , too valuable to wear on the bike.

Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban L2870 black early 1980's Baloramas today for the northern Harley ride out of town.
4C at the jumpoff and 14C at the time of the photo.
This is a manipulated pair as there were some reasonably fast stretches on this route today.

I used to like Ray-Bans, but ever since Luxottica has been putting the big squeeze on the optical market, I have a hard time supporting the company. My all time favorites were Hobie Polarized, a small company out of southern California, but I lost my favorite pair while on my honeymoon in Yugoslavia. I was never able to replace them because Hobie the company got sold and the brand was crapped out to low quality mass merchandiser stuff. At the time, however, those original Hobies were as good, if not better, than a pair of Vuarnets. I made my way to Maui Jims, which I had never heard of but stumbled across a display in a hotel on Maui and bought them on the spot. At one point, I had about a dozen pair of Maui Jims, one for each jacket, car, bike, home, etc, but ever since my vision began changing annually it seems, I just buy whatever is cheap at the on-line internet optical store, use the pair for 12 months, then donate them. I no longer have allegiance to a brand of sunglasses.

I hear ya mate ! I did not need reading glasses until age 55. I am 100% convinced that computer use at work and home "tipped me over that edge". At 61 I still do not need corrected vision to drive or ride a motorcycle.
If and when that happens well my huge Ray-Ban collection may be culled and some of them fitted with prescription lenses.
All of my collection is US made Bausch & Lomb , bar one pair of tortoiseshell Balorama "made in Ireland" ??

I did ask an optician/optometrist to put my mild reading/vision prescription lenses into a brand new NOS pair of Bausch & Lomb Balorama frames , 7 barrel hinges from the 70's. Red and Black 2 Tone
Brand new in the sealed packet they were (still are !) but they were not keen in case it did not go well.

I have never owned Maui Jims but have examined them closely. Never really "needed" a pair , ( NO WONDER !)

A lot of opticians are wary of older, non-metal frames in case it doesn't take. Not sure I'd relense a Rayban unless you really can't fidn the frame you want otherwise. An optician once steered me away from spending the money on a pair of Wayfarers to have doen up with prescription lenses, telling me that most of what you're paynig for with RBs is the quality of the lens - if you're gonig to poke them out and put in prescriptions, better to buy a pair of cheaper, lensesless frames that look the same but aren't RB.

A "spare part" in the Bausch & Lomb catalogue. Never had had lenses in them , in a "vacuum sealed" pack all those years.
They were still not keen in case something went wrong , so "2 for $199" Specsavers is the route we now go.
On getting my first reading pair when aged 55 the female Optician asked " What kind of frames do you want "
I reply , with no hint of sarcasm " Ones that don't make me look like a speccy ba***rd"..
She quips ( Australian lady !) , "Good luck with that" haha...

Nah mate , I don't have the patience for contacts and I only need a mild reading prescription in any case.
These are the brand new NOS from the 70's Two Tone red and black Balorama frames that I have.
You can still buy them on US ebay today , I got these delivered to Perth WA for $30 USD in March 2013
I reckon the local optometrists/opticians don't want to risk losing their money if custom lenses don't fit.
I just wanted my prescription in a transition sunlight darkening lens .
This thread has piqued my desire , I may look into it again and see if I can get a Perth WA mob to follow thru.

Persol 2569 S today. 80's vintage. Absolute quality Italian manufacture. I have posted these before.
Not riding today , a car trip. These would allow too much wind in on the bike ( tho' I actually have not tried !)
(I just routinely grab a pair of Bausch & Lomb Ray Ban Baloramas if the bike is coming out.)
Still no "selfie" stick and unlikely to be so !

Late 80's 5 barrel hinged Bausch & Lomb Ray-Ban Balorama L2870's today.
Made in Rochester New York back in the day.
A winter blue sky Harley ride north and out of the CBD/metro area.
Some quite quick stretches , hence the manipulated pair.
My "favouritist favourite" pair. Been pushed under so many helmets over the years the "ARMS" aka Temples are wonky.
Ridiculous "selfie" photo. A trick I have yet to perfect !

By far and away my most favourite style of sunglasses. Taken as usual over at the coast, same Ocean sorry !

Jacket my Simmons Bilt Nebraska in black goat , one of my (many!) favourites !
