This is how far I Will go with this. A little coat of beeswax and rigorous horsehair brushing. This jacket needed some moisture and I think this keeps most of the beautiful patina intact.

In Australia I use this product . R.M.Williams leather conditioner. I have used it an many jackets now.

I always find it satisfying when a jacket like that gets an overdue drink after years of neglect. I can't see any patina in those photos but the fading, scuffs and creasing look much less severe and the jacket seems happy.

Marvelous. As a friend i must tell you well done on getting those crown zips, but be advised other zippers will be a let down from now on an they will bring no satisfaction.

Another nice vintage find! I have never seen this particular Penny's label. The gathered sides and the squared piping on the pockets show up in the mid/late 40s. This design is very popular through out the 50s.
This is a Sears Hercules style with the lower side adjustments and 50s quilt lining.

Yeah, I haven't seen this label on other jackets either. The zipper has "Talon" down the middle of the stop so I guess that dates it to mid to late 40's. The side-gatherers don't seem as substantial as the ones I've seen on similar jackets, but I guess that could be era-dependent. I'm curious about the vented back though. Somewhere I learned that California Sportswear Company used this technique. I see this in other jackets from the 30s with the light lining and variety of labels. Talon down the middle of the stop is 40s. Probably post war.

Did you ask for deleting the belt loops? What kind of change of pattern did you ask for? Very handsome jacket!
Straight out of the box, only 5 minutes of wear to check the sizing.
The leather is i think my favourite up to date, i am pretty sure it is thicker than my previous 2 LW, and is loaded with grain and stretch marks, just what i like!
Fit is perfect, the change to the pattern came out great, fit pics still to come in a couple weeks once it is broken in.

Pulled up the bikes at the roadside to get the regenerating bush after the bushfires of recent.
A bit of winter rain and off it goes again. The Australian bush is fire "resistant" , some plants have become "fire dependent"

Jacket today is my Schott 641HH Café racer. Nice and close fitting for a cool day run. 5C start 16C at 1pm.

I removed the belt loops, the back dip, the badge holder, and the collar snaps, also removed the sheepskin from the wrists and had it replaced with deerskin like on the Leathertogs.
I also had him use a Crown main zipper and some no 10 nickel C&C zippers for wrists and pockets.
I asked for two collars, one brown, one fairfield (natural)
The pattern changes were made on the remake.
The original was a regular 42L and was too baggy for me in the waist, he remade the jacket with a 42 upper part (shoulders and arms) but going down to a 40 below the pits.
This is actually the new standard pattern now, so older CHPs will be baggier than new ones.
Old pattern looked really "bulbous" and rounded on me, new one is trim and V shaped, but without being as intensely trim and short as a Cal.
I will post pics comparing both patterns when it is broken in and ready to review...

It is a beast. Smooth too. As far I know, only Langlitz and LW have large gauge Crown zips in stock. But I don’t know much, to be clear.
I couldn’t get Aero/TB to install a large gauge zipper on my Chips.
