Both horsebutts are vegetable tanned, similar thickness and hand but different finishing.

The pair of Clinch I had was in black overdyed Horsebutt. By putting them under the sun you could clearly see they were hand painted in black and looked almost brown. This goes along with the “handmade” vibe of the Clinch. (That said I’m not sure whether this is still what they offer today, mine were purchased 2 years ago).

The Attractions Horsebutt is also tea-core but not hand painted. They do age beautifully too (not my pair):

Oh and one big difference. The Clinch were CN last soft toe. The soft toe seemed like a nice idea before purchasing them but then I found that after some wear my big toe was poking through. Wasn’t a massive fan of that. (Clinch can be spec’ed in different ways of course with a toe box too and potentially thicker leathers they offer don’t suffer from this).

Attractions have a more traditional toe box which retains the shape of the front.

Is there something I can do about that? Got the same problem with the Vibergs and it's something I've never seen before. Trying to find some info online but there's no mention of the problem.

I’m really not sure if anything can be done. Probably storing them after every wear with a shoe tree? I suspect it will only delay and slow down the crease from forming but eventually it will show.

If they fit fine I’d say just go along with it, it’s a feature of an unstructured toe. I suspect it happens to most people.

Got some New boots for winter. House brand from a Norwegian shoemaker. They are called, Dagestad Hamar and based on old Norwegian "beksøm boots". Thick suede on these.

I was close to buy the Attractions horsebutt Engineer boots but as my wife likes both more elegant/classic or modern designs (Italian makers) on me I've just decided to order Clinch Jodhpur boots made of black Horsebutt. As I can wear them for more opportunities (job and leasure) and as I really like Clinch's Jodhpur boot design a lot, I think this is the right decision for me. Since it will be my last pair of high quality shoes/boots for at least 1-2 years or even longer (I bought my last high quality boots about 2-3 years ago), I was thinking about "the right choice" over and over again knowing that Clinch boots won't get out of my head anyway. I was just fascinated by the fact that the boots are 100% hand-sewn/handmade (@dudewuttheheck inspired me also) like the business shoes I already own from Vass, Budapest which are by far the highest quality business shoes I own - I will have a good comparison between Clinch and Vass. Clinch Jodhpur boots will likely arrive around middle/end of August.

Up to the ankle they are the same as their engineers. They are nice boots I hope you’ll be happy and most importantly they fit your feet well.

That said... I’m itching for you Robbie, how can a man live in peace without a pair of engineers?!

I’d be surprised if you can last a few months after you’ll receive these without scratching that itch.

Try rubbing the bakc of a hot spoon over it, often gets rid of marks easy. Only problem I've ever had crossing my ankles like that is with a waxy hide leaving a deposit on my cuffs.

This one made me chuckle - reminds me of one of those kid's pictures where you can change to top half and the bottom half, you know what I mean? Fashion wheel or something. It's the combination of the leather and the flipflops!

I had a pair of "modern" sandals years ago, but I've never seen a pair I actually like. These days I graduate more towards penny loafer in hot weather; also considring picking up some perforated, 50s -style Oxfords. I've found I'm usually good with aleather shoe in hot weather as long as it is true leather - breathable, in a way synthetics aren't.

Still enjoying these honcho boots. So much so I ordered a pair of custom honcho boots in brown horse. About 60 day make time. Made in el paso tx. 385 bucks. crazy to me that price compared to prices of other boots i am used to and prices floating around the forum. Ill post when I get and what specs in case anyone is interested. Never thought I would be wearing cowboy boots lol. But with a lower heel i think they look great.

Confession time. I never thought I'd wear cowboy boots either, but I just picked up my third pair a week and a half ago and am looking for more. Scored a pair of Black Jack that flew under the radar listed as unbranded on eBay. I reached out to their customer service rep after receiving them and sent her some pictures. She confirmed the make as being genuine (and then ever so conveniently let me know they offer full refurb services when the time comes). Goatskin (burgundy) shaft with bison (chocolate) vamp:

@Monitor First of all thank you for the positive feedback. I had the same feeling when I looked the these Jodhpur boots for the first time as they just look perfect for me. IMO they can be worn for most occasions without feeling over- or underdressed.

It's interesting how the lower heel totally transforms the look of the boot - that, the slightly rounder toe, and the more subtle decoration. THose are motre a boot I ould imagine myselfv wearing - perhaps with a nice, subtle harness - whereas my more traditional cowboy boot days are very definitely long behined me.
