Finds and Deals - Leather Jacket Edition

Seller was very responsive last night. No loose seams. That’s good. But she said it does need some airing out. That scares me a bit.

I didn’t ask about measurements as the posted ones probably would work for me, if a bit short.

Closed a deal last night, something coming form Northern California. I found it by accident while doing jacket research. I followed a link to a thread here. The particular post was over a year old, but I followed the link to harvest some pictures. When I got to the link it was an ebay auction and the jacket was unsold! Fixed price with a BIN.

I tossed and turned but made the offer and got the jacket.

As they come in the door, others must leave. I'm in anticipation mode.

It is a vintage piece from the 40s with some lineage and interesting back story. At least I think so. I don't get jackets with a personal connection too often. This has a personal connection and the jacket has Bay area connection, and a Harley Davidson connection, though not a HD product.

It is an interesting find. Should be a week or so.

It's beautiful, but looks a tad short. Probably was worn by someone who was on the short side.

As to the excessive postage, sometimes a seller will typo a box dimension or weight and Ebay will calculate a ridiculous cost. If the 24" the seller entered in the description fields for the jacket for sleeve length, etc. is used as a box length, that could easily explain the high cost. Sellers don't always see the cost, as it's calculated differently for each bidder's destination, so he might see a "reasonable" price like $25-30 to ship to his own zip code, and not realize there's a problem.
I suspected what Guppy says, I received the jacket in a 24" box priority mail $27 I live about 60 miles from the seller's PO. Received the jacket the next day - today - very well packaged.

I'm selling that. Lining is okay, frayed at the neck but is holding strong. Really cool jacket and very heavy.
Excuse me, I didn't mean to spoil it. Personally I prefer to keep the original parts (lining, zippers...) rather than change them. Of course a great jacket, just look at the patina! As far I know, Scovill zippers got hold of Conmar production in mid 60s.

Oh, no trouble. I wasn't trying to hide anything, just saying that it looks worse than it is but difficult to show this on a photo. Someone'd say it definitely needs a replacement, I personally don't mind it at all. If it was a bit tighter, I'd keep it. Never seen Langlitz in this tea-core leather and one that's so heavy and tough. This is as classic as it gets, I'm really surprised it still hadn't sold and I even had it listed here for something super cheap.

TBH, Langlitz fits too boxy or... Orby for me. I am constantly going from sending this jacket to someone to resize it or sell it.

It's just the kind of leather IMO a perfect jacket should be made of. Lots of grain, variation, soft, sturdy... Just right.
