I swear, I didn't set this up! The six-year-old and her cousin had taken over the patio lately. I happened to walk out on the patio and saw Louie sitting there.

While we are passionate about our jackets, many of us are exponentially more devoted to our pets. Often, our pets make appearances in our jacket photos; or, our jackets make appearances in our pet photos. I reckon its time for a thread dedicated to our beloved pets, both with and without jackets.

We currently have three dogs: (1) a seven year old brindle Frenchie (Atticus); (2) a 1.5 year old black and tan Frenchie (Pheobie); and (3) an older rescued mutt (Little Dog -- we called her Little Dog while we contemplated a permanent name and the interim name stuck).

Must admit I am more into dogs than jackets

Here's my pair of Cane Corsos, father and daughter, Ruby and Danny.

I need to work on a decent with jacket pic, but warm at the moment though.

Great idea Super. I can see dogs bring a smile to your face too.
Here’s a quick pic of Faith while we sit out back. She’s about 11 or 12 now and i’m a lot better person because of her. Wearing her long haired white grizzly coat.

Yep good one, dogs are truly the best.

Growing up I was always afraid of dogs as I was assaulted by a German Shepard when I was three requiring several stitches to my face and that clearly left me shocked. When I was in my early twenties the dog of a friend of mine had a litter and I decided to get one puppy. One of the best decision I ever made in my life so far. So here is Artù (lab mix) my first and only pet I ever had:

Got it when he was 30days old and he’s now 12 and half years old. Since I moved out my parents’ place 9 years ago sort of became more of my mum and dad dog actually. With 2 little kids now I wouldn’t know where to find the time to properly look after a pet but as soon as they grow up a little I’ll definitely get a dog.

Super if my wife saw those pics I’d be in deeeep shit! Fabulous beasts. Dav your CC’s always impress. I only have my guy tank left. Been almost 20 years with this crew. Many of which were spent running a nursing home for dogs.

But one of the most joyful gifts to a child or parent is gifting them a pet when young.
I gifted each of my 3 children pets on their birthdays when young.
I can’t begin to tell you the countless joys watching them grow up together. I got the most joy thrilling them each.
That made up for all the downside of pet ownership.
The kids are grown and gone but the memories are forever.

I’ve got old man Charlie. He’s 12 or 13 now. He was a rescue. He’s a pit bull boxer and been through all the major changes in my life with me. He’s the most cuddly most gentle sweetest guy.

Then we have Gretchen a 3-ish year old Frenchie. Also a rescue. Rescued from a puppy mill where she was forced to breed. She has a super rare brindle color type that makes her worth a fortune. Unfortunately the breeder didn’t realize if you force two dogs with mutations to breed they will have deformed and stillborn puppies. Luckily my friends run a rescue and got her. Helps knowing the owners of the rescue since 650 people applied for her! The breeder was also a guy it took 6 months of tons of attention to get her to accept me. Now she’s my shadow and best friend. Still hesitant around men in general though. Still keeps an eye on my dad or fiancés dad if they come to visit. But she’s worlds different. Watching her transformation has been amazing.

Charlie can be a bit territorial over “his toys” but otherwise they play as much as old man Charlie can. If he’s over it he just walks away. Otherwise they are up to all sorts of trouble. Including my last photo. The neighbor will give Charlie treats if she’s out. He’s taught his sister alllll about it. Even taught her the same pose.

@Superfluous if we lived closer, would have to try and have a Frenchie play date or walk session.

A rescue Frenchie is very rare.

We had a similar experience with our rescue, Little Dog. She was abused by her original owner and was very scared and defensive when we adopted her, particularly with men. Now, she is super gentle.

My wife and I are connected with the local Frenchie community. We attend play-dates and GTGs with local Frenchies.

This is a very important thread!

I too had a phase when I was afraid of dogs, even though I grew up with the kindest German Shepherd imaginable. Then for a long while I was pretty much indifferent to dogs, though I love all animals but now I think they really are not cool at all because they steal your heart and take it with them and leave you with nothing.
I never intended to have a dog and I certainly didn't want this little guy that often sneaks up into photos when I'm taking pics of my jackets but life turned out the way it did. My mom got him as a puppy but as she passed away not long after, he ended up with me. I wasn't even sure at the time what to do, I really didn't want a dog but luckily, I was so devastated that my life was set on auto-pilot back then and I just didn't care what was happening around me. Now I can't imagine my life without the damn thing.

Really interesting stories @Mich486 and @Monitor . Growing up, I could not have a dog because my mother is allergic. Thus, I became indifferent to dogs. My first wife wanted a dog, but I balked because I thought it would preclude my mother from coming over (my wife was fine with that). Thus, I remained indifferent bordering on disinclined. After my divorce, I hooked up with my current wife and she had three Shar-Peis at the time. At first, it was a material concern for me. However, over time, I warmed-up to the dogs and came to love them. Now, I am a dog lover to the core.

The foregoing openly angered my kids. They were pissed that I denied them a dog, then later embraced dogs with my second wife. I really f'ed up that one. @AbbaDatDeHat , you are so right -- I sincerely wish I had brought dogs into my home when my kids were young. I denied them a loving relationship with a dog and they will not soon forget (if ever).

I got my first dog as a child around 7. A woman my dad worked with found a mother and two pups literally in the dumpster diving scavenging for food behind their office. She took them in but could only keep two. She didn’t want to fully split up the family and wanted play dates to still be possible. So funny enough I was about 7 and my parents were debating having another child while this was happening. My dad took me to see the dogs and the runt of the two pups who just sat quietly spoke to me as a kid. I was a quiet “nerdy” obsessed with books kid. Quite the opposite from what my profession and personal life took my down as an adult. But back, to the point...I fell in love, we brought her home. And after about a week a name was decided on. Baby; as they decided that this new pup was enough for our little family and would be just the right amount of attention and expense as opposed to an actual baby. Had her for 14 years. She was a German Shepherd-Collie mix. Imagine German shepherd markings with collie length and texture fur. I’m going to see if I can find some photos of her to add. All I can say as a child who was shy as I was, she was a my best friend. Shattered me when she passed. This isn’t to make anyone feel bad about not having a dog for a kid, simply to say how much I loved it, and how lucky I was. 14 years for a dog her size was a really great run. Saw me through to my senior year of high school.

And that’s exactly the right attitude. There’s nothing worse than bad dog parents. If you know you’re not home enough to do it justice, then you’re doing it right!

My buddy Loki came to us through our daughter. Loki is our "grand dog". When Nancy went into the Coast Guard about 6 years ago she asked us to take Loki which was not a problem at all as he was already a part of the family. My daughter had brought Loki back home from the University of Tennessee as she prepared for the USCG basic training. So Loki was exceptionally well trained and fit into our family no problem. Since that time Nancy went all over the Pacific fell in love and married Zoe adding Jetson into her family nucleus. They recently added Newton (Newt) to their family as well.

You are so right, I’m sure the kids would have lots of fun and make for some memorable moments plus I think it’d be instructive to learn about caring a pet since young age. Dogs are a lot of work but they give back 10 times more than they take away (you could say the same for kids too! lol). I’m in a position now where, beside the kids, on some weekdays we leave home at around 7am and nobody is back until 7pm so it’d be physically very difficult to look after decently a dog. Things won’t be like this forever though the kids grow fast...

Lovely. I also had a Lab in my 20's to early 30's. He was smarter than more than half the people I have met, and could easily eat himself to death (once, when he was 4 months old, I did the mistake to leave both him and oven pan full of just grilled burgers in the kitchen - the oven pan on the table that he could hardly reach. Half an hour later I returned to the kitchen and I found an empty pan and a whining dog lying on his side with an amazingly swollen belly). I hope he still runs in the meadows of heaven and eating ambrosia burgers.

I love Greek names. Is Pheobe a deliberate anagramming for Phoebe?
We had named our labrador Thales, my parents being mathematicians and me and my sister studying engineering at that time.

My now 10 year old German Sheperd bitch Tessa. Guard dog for the house and Harley AND a top pet.

In reality my daughter's dog , I reckoned if you were going to get a dog , it should be able to "earn it's keep"..

My daughter is a working nurse now and Tessa is 100% mine by default.
