O’Farrell:
This was an eBay victory that I was sure was going to be a defeat. I saw it within minutes of it being listed. I sent an email asking how they determined it was a size 7 3/4 and if they would give me the normal measurements. Far too many size 7 3/4 hats turn out to just have head openings that are 7 3/4” long. While waiting for a response, Max sent me a PM with a link to the hat. For the low cost I took the risk and pulled the trigger hoping it was actually a 7 3/4. It was. :)
I suspect the open crown would be over 6 inches and the brim is 3 inches. Thanks, Max...I needed the nudge. This is my third O’Farrell and by far the nicest of them.

It’s a buckskin color that makes a nice break from silverbelly and brown.

Congrats on both of those, Brent. I remember seeing that Resistol and hoping you’d end up with it. It suits you perfectly and you’ve made it look so much better than the eBay photos!
This O’Farrell is sporting sharp colors. Is the company still in business?

Thanks. I like them both too, and that surely isn’t always the case. :)
Of the two, I really have an affinity for the Resistol. This type of milan is so light and comfortable, it breathes well, and it flexes too without the fragility of Panama hats.

O’Farrell is still in business. They’ve moved locations over the years and the son is now running the business. Based on the three I’ve bought used, I don’t think I’d ever consider paying anywhere near full price for a new one.

:)

This fella says since you've broken the rules, he's going to crap in two of your chosen hats a asks what you're going to do about it. :p

I say, man with bat going up against man with Ruger will most likely end up with a huge, bloody hole where his eye used to be and only end up crappin’ his drawers.
‘Sides, I don’t care for non-hat guys who go around beating up slow moving zombies who are simply hungry, scratching around for a meal.
Anyway, this is just more crazy talk.
No one would actually consider taking a dump in a pristine Fifteen, right?
:)

Hückel Extra in black. Unlined, size 60 with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. It weighs just 106 grams, so lightweight.
I'm a bit confused by this one as there is no label inside the hat. I'm thinking it's an early Hückel Welheim, so late forties, maybe early fifties based on the type (extra), the lettering on the sweat and the sweatband seam. It's not my size and it's black, which is why I initially just took a few snaps of it with my phone (posted in the "what hat are you waiting for thread). But I thought I'd probably get lynched if I let a larger sized early Hückel behind. So here it is. Remarkably similar in style, proportions and weight to the Stetson Medalist I posted recently.

I had watched the old John Wayne movie, "Angel and the Badman" recently, and really liked Harry Carey's hat. Drove to Buckaroo Hatters in Covington TN on Saturday, and walked away with this....

It is a 50/50 beaver/hare blend. Bone color. Around 6 in. crown and 3 3/4 brim. I didn't have a blend, so thought I'd try one. I like it. It is not quite as stiff as pure beaver, and is a "hare" softer!

That’s a nice hat! One of these days I’m going to make it by Buckaroo Hatters. It’s definitely on the hat pilgrimage trail.
You really should Brent. I think you would enjoy meeting Mike & Rocky. Great guys. And if you come this far east, you might just as well go to Knoxville and meet Rick. I'm about halfway between the two, we could get together too, if there were time. Love to meet fellow hat folks!

Sounds like a hoot! I’ll have to leave my money at home though; a trip like that could bankrupt me. :)

Looks like that could be a Marshall Matt Dillon hat as well! Very nice.

Sometimes simple is best, right! And what could be simpler and more iconic than a 50's model silverbelly with a cattleman's crease and a one-ply ribbon. This is a No. 1 Quality Stetson. The felt is very nice (although no match for a 3X) and the hat is in great condition. It came in with a brittle and torn sweat that Mike at Northwest Hats easily replaced. So far, this is a great every day hat. The red liner really sets it off!

Love the skinny ribbon westerns. I’m always on the lookout for old No. 1 Quality hats, but there’s a lot of competition.

This was a shot in the dark. The seller said it was a size 7 7/8 and that was all they knew:

Cleaned up and shaped it turned out to be something of a surprise. I wonder if it was refurbished at some time. The blue ribbon doesn’t look original. The liner is sewn in and the hat doesn’t have any damage of any kind. The open crown is 5 1/2” and the brim is 2 3/8” with the obligatory Cavanagh edge. The sweatband doesn’t have any markings other than the name “Mike.”
