Rit dye and Rit color stay in two gallons of water using Vinegar and salt, to taste, and cooked to Medium hot in a large pot. Let it soak for 24 hours...making sure there are no wrinkles in the felt, so there won’t be folds not getting dye.
It helps to use colors that are compatible. This hat was a medium gray, which suits a blue dye.
Nothing to it.
The hard part is getting over the fear of ruining a good vintage hat...and becoming capable of sewing it all back together with some success.
And to all out there who don’t like rare hats to be messed with: I understand your cares. I truly do. But, I also think if the hat isn’t ruined by doing untraditional, unrespectable things to a good hat...and in fact, turns out better, then I’m okay with it. Hope you can be, too.
Though, mistakes can be made, by anyone, sometimes.
As long as mistakes are done on my own hats, I can live with an occasional faux paw. The trick is to be able to come up with a fix to mend the paw.
