Can't get enough of that Dalton, Stefan. Great color combo and wide brim binding. I take solace that it's not in my hands because it's too small for me!

World's Finest for me as well, today.

Happy Felt Hat Day!
Thanks, Jim. Glad I got the Dalton memo. Yours is a fine example too.;)

View attachment 261678 Here’s the magical 50s Champ that was a size 7 having ample proportions at the start and somehow kept its proportions in the reblock.
Except for the binding It’s been completely stripped, blocked up to 7 3/8, flanged, and put back together using the same hatband AND successfully stretched sweatband!!!
This never happens, and isn’t supposed to.

That is a miracle. Fantastic job, Randall.

Nice one, Randall. Quite a commanding hat.
Thanks, Stefan.
Even back in the eighties I loved working with hats so much that I would walk into a few western stores around the city of J-ville and ask if they’d let me use their steamer to reshape hats on their shelves that had been abused by customers and the shelf itself.
For free!
Later, they started paying me...but not very much.

Yes, this hat a miracle.

LOL! Your a size 7 1/2, right? God couldn’t even pull that off! :)

On related news: I just purchased my first felt Pilgram today! A very nice gray Strat clone. 7 1/4 , so it doesn’t need a miracle, thank the Lord!
Also got a Portis “Lite Wate” on the way that promises to be be quite a hat!

That’s a keeper Randall. Both because it worked out so well and because it’s a gorgeous fedora. Excellent work dude.

This new stack might keep me capped for a while.

Some shouldn’t fit at 3/8 but for some reason they do.

Today’s selection. Churchill in Flax

That playboy is beautiful Joe. I like the cap you’re wearing too, and that searsucker looks neat!! Did you buy them all in a lot?

That wide brim binding and the proportions are outstanding. I love the contrasting ribbon too. Can’t believe you sized it all up that much...the sweatband too! Crazy. :)

Nuts ain’t it? Very unexpected. After removal I started out stretching the hat band just so when later fitting in a piece of leather cut from a section of vintage sweatband, I wouldn’t have such a big patch in this wonderful hat.
It kept stretching showing no signs of stress at the seam or in the leather, so I kept tightening the turnbuckle, but only in small increments for three days.
As everyone here knows, this is a rare occurrence. I don’t recommend anyone trying a two size stretch on their favorite vintage hats, as this usually ends up ruining an irreplaceable, highly important hat component.
I’m thinking that this particular vintage hat has been, long ago, worn by Jesus; the night of the water to wine, or maybe the five loaves and two fish, incident. :)
