Congrats, Randy. Well deserved.

The planets have aligned or we are in the Covid Twilight Zone or something else very strange is happening! I'm so EXCITED I can't stand it! Good things really do come to those who wait...and wait...and wait...and persevere!!! Brent @deadlyhandsome finally gets a vintage Derby and I finally get ................yes......................wait for it................... a 7XCB!!!! WooooHoooo! [And the price was amazing, too. Another WooooHoooo.]

This one has the same luscious feel as others I have handled in the past, but now this one is mine! More in the 7XCB thread tomorrow. Not a blemish on the felt or liner. The text on the sweatband is crystal clear and it is pretty obvious this one has seen very little head time...until today!!!

A huge THANK YOU to Randall @Randall Renshaw who has become one of the primary enablers here on the Lounge!

The G.B.Borsalino fu Lazzaro finally arrived today. A big thanks to Mike @TheGuitarFairy for doing the deal on this one. As you can see, I couldn't wait to shape it.

Way to go, Steve! I’m glad this hat made it to you. You don’t get a chance at hats like that very often. Generous of Mike to let you be it’s caretaker.

Got my first Portis a week ago.
Says Lite Wate on the cool, scenic liner, but Tissue weight on the sweat. A lil weird.
Also on the sweat, “The New Slant”.
Don’t know what that means, though I have seen several of these, but in different styles.
I liked this hat a lot, but it suffered from too much crown taper. I reblocked it solving that problem.

There's an ad floating around here somewhere showing the New Slant. It generally has a crease that is noticeably lower from one side to the other. IIRC, Mike ( @Redfokker ) has one of these, too.

I have a 7-3/8 Disney... sweet navy blue. Is that your size?

Thanks for the info on The New Slant, Doug.
I didn’t notice a slanting crease. The original owner may have changed it.

I’m a 1/4, but most 3/8 vintage hats that I’ve bought have shrunk to my size. I’ll send you a PM.

The Eagle by Stetson - Royal De Luxe

58E22612-8D87-4526-861B-8CFF9739633E.jpeg

The Eagle by Stetson
Dark Chocolate Brown
4 3/4 crown as shaped
2 inch dark brown grosgrain ribbon
2 inch brim front - 1 7/8 sides with 1/4 matching binding

A much appreciated care package arrived the other day from Randy @Rmccamey with three great little hats inside. The first is this late 50’s to early 60s stingy brim fedora named The Eagle by Stetson Royal De Luxe. I love the shape of the bash Randy had on this one with very crisp lines. The felt has a beautiful color and the feather makes a striking contrast. (Not sure the type of feather) It appears these mixed fraction keyhole tags date in a small window of late 1950s to early 1960s. Thank you Randy for this cool little hat. I’ll be posting the other two in the coming days.

Royal Stetson - Late 50s/Early 60s

B4E33939-443C-4BC1-A959-D07E0B564867.jpeg

Charcoal/Brown Royal Stetson
4 1/2 crown
1 1/2 Single Bow Espresso grosgrain ribbon
1 3/4 brim with 3/8 matching grosgrain binding

Oddly enough a day or so before Randy’s package arrived. I received this little Brownish Charcoal Grey Royal Stetson that happens to be very similar to The Eagle by Stetson posted above. The seller had titled the auction Stetson 3X... I had just two not so great photos to go on. It was not a 3X but still a nice looking little hat. This has the same mixed fraction keyhole tag as The Eagle... so I believe that would date it to late 50s early 60s.

Thanks,again, Doug. Very helpful!
I like reading old posts on subjects of interest.
With the diamond crease I put in the New Slant, it kinda takes on the front to back slanted look Portis might have had in it at the factory.

From what I've always seen, the "slant" was from one side to the other, rather than front-to-back. I'd imagine many of these were recreased over the years, though. They don't seem to have much of a pressed in crease, like newer hats.

But if you re-blocked it to take out the factory taper/block, it's really not a New Slant anymore, is it?

From the links Doug posted it looks like the New Slant went front to back. And the other ones I’ve seen on eBay went front to back. Howbeit, according to the @Tukwila links, Stetson made a “Slant” that went side to side.
Either way, as I said earlier, this one came with a re-creased crown anyway, so it was no longer a New Slant before it got to me. Matter of fact, I had to do some cleaning and sanding to get the original creases, whatever they were, and the prior owner’s crease to disappear. Turned out looking real nice.
It’s a great looking fedora of which I am proud to own, slanted or not.
