They're just hoping that (once the ice melts) beneath it they'll find all of the air and sea craft that ever went missing in the Bermuda Triangle.
Wait...when did they move the Bermuda Triangle from the Atlantic Ocean to the Antarctic Ocean? I must have failed to vote in that election.

Not only the traces of ancient water on Mars but I'm fascinated by the soil there being radiated & the readings are stronger than any place on earth like Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc. Readings that strong can't occur naturally, can they?

Yes since Mars doesn't have an electro-magnetic field to protect it from solar radiation.

I'm curious why 28 countries are now staking claims to Antarctica now that the ice is melting. Is it just to divide up the oil fields or is something else going on there?

Probably just to lay claim on the oil reserves but by the time the ice melts enough for oil extraction to become economically viable, the earth may be in such a state that burning yet more fossil fuels may not be such a good idea.

From what I have read there are countries staking claims there who are not part of the original 12 countries signing the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, & when that treaty was reviewed & extended in 1991 by provisions of the original agreement, said countries did not object or wish to be included. Most of these countries now showing up are so poor yet are spending huge amounts of their annual budget for research stations on the continent. This has all come about since 1999. Makes one recall the recent push by several countries with no prior space programs, to get to the moon & Mars.

I’m not sayin’ that it’s Aliens, but…

From the article:

There were rumours – on the internet, admittedly – that Barack Obama, on exiting office, was going to reveal something definitive about the existence of aliens. Are you in the know? “I can’t say much,” he says. “But I do know there have been moments when certain presidents have come close. The issue always becomes: how are people going to digest this if we hit them over the head with a giant sledgehammer? That’s scary for people in the Pentagon when they’re trying to keep civilisation duct-taped together.”

So if national security wasn’t an issue, could you tell me stuff that would make my hair stand on end? “Yes. I thought I knew most of the unnerving parts, then I was briefed on something and I didn’t sleep for three nights.”

“We have physical material from something that crashed purportedly in the late 40s, and we can prove this thing was engineered. This thing is extremely advanced, down to a nano level, and is of interest to the national labs, the US government and the US army.”

Woops, side track. About that “material”:

If you have about a half an hour, this is the first time I’ve heard a real in-depth description of that bit of material from an ex-Skunk Works guy who actually touched it. The publication is not something you’d normally associate with crackpots. (A transcript is also available at the bottom of the article, but it is worth a listen, if you are at all interested.)

Regarding the possible source of that sample:

That's trippendicular, dude! Scooby, pass the reefer, would you?

First hand Presidential knowledge supposedly started in the 1940's with Truman, then Eisenhower (a 5 star General). Nixon supposedly knew a lot from his time as VP under Eisenhower, then as President. Presidents have pretty much been on a need to know basis (on a lot of things) ever since.

On Thursday, 24 Sept, an asteroid as big as a bus will shoot below the orbits of some of our satellites and skim by at a distance of 13,000 miles. A close shave, cosmically speaking.
And here is a NASA artist's rendering of what they believe it will look like as it passes:

Dangerous man-made space debris. This is what happened when a defunct Russian military satellite and an active Iridium communications satellite collided back in 2009.

Why do we care?

https://www.rt.com/news/503562-russian-military-satellite-crash-risk/

Thankfully they missed each other this time – two major pieces of junk in orbit, an old Russian satellite and a second stage from a Chinese booster. All told 2,5 tonnes of dead hardware that could’ve collided at 14 km/sec closing speed and scattered massive amounts of debris at about 1000km altitude which is just about the worst place possible. Most weather and earth observation satellites operate in the 700-900 km range and this would have been like firing buckshot through them.

As we say about asteroid impacts, it is just a matter of time.

A few weeks back, the International Space Station (ISS) had to change orbit to avoid a piece of space junk.
https://blogs.nasa.gov/spacestation/2020/09/22/station-boosts-orbit-to-avoid-space-debris/

What is surprising is that it doesn't happen more often since humans have turned space into a junk yard as well as the Earth.

Yeah, but that's why the asteroids keep missing us. We've created a shield of junk that's completely surrounding the planet, so the odds of anything getting through that are infinitesimal.

George H.W. Bush probably knew a lot from his time as Director of the CIA. I doubt those that have been President since were told much.

Well, the scientific explanation is that it was likely space junk burning up on re-entry. These appear to be two separate sightings over Hawaii, but it is not 100% clear. They apparently ruled out it being Starlink Satellites. The two videos look fairly similar.

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2020/10/25/more-mysterious-lights-appear-night-sky-over-hawaii/

My first thought on seeing the Maui video was that it was an airplane... Until it became clear that the lights were ABOVE some contrails. Could be space junk burning on re-entry, but it certainly gives the illusion of somehow hanging together.

Fun stuff.
