anybody hear of this Schott B3? Looks like a collab maybe, but if I'm reading everything right, looks like it's made from cow leather instead of the usual sheep leather. Every time I get really close to buying a used b-3, I'm kind of turned off by how they age. There's a lot of models made in the early 2000s for sale (usually in the $300-700 range). Maybe it's just me, but the texture just seems weird once the top coat wears off. TBH though, I've never seen one in person, so it's only through photos. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Anyway, this caught my eye being cow leather, it should age nicely.

edit: nevermind, just noticed, it's the trim leather that's cow. Main leather is sheep. Anyway, still curious about how these sheep skin jackets age

I have one of these, it was my first ever "leather jacket"...
They fit like most things Schott, short and wide for the size, don't expect a good fit if you are V shaped, if you are barrel shaped this is for you.
I bought mine in 2000 something and i ended up sizing up to a 48 instead of 42 to get the length i needed, it was huge! A few years later i had the body tapred down so it would fit better.

Mine has always had a suede finish, even when it was new.

I would say get one if you can get it cheap, but they are not really worth spending big bucks on, especially the new one with the fluffy sheep. The older curly ones are i think thicker.

For the money, my recently bought Vanson B-3 is a much nicer jacket and although it is a bit rarer and harder to find and a bit more expensive (got mine for $570 in mint condition) i would recommend it above the Schott one.

thanks, Carlos. Really helpful. So funny about Schott, now that you say that, it's true, they do tend to fit short and wide. I have a love hate relationship with my 141, somedays I'm like yeah, this jacket is fire. Love how the leather feels. But the sides are a mess with the biswing, gussets, straps.
Yeah, I think I'm going to get an Aero D1 or B6 which have more of a fitted look over the B3. I did find an old Schott B3 from Japan going for like $275. Looks to be in good shape, so might try for shitz and giggles. But like I was saying about the leather, it doesn't look like there's any grain in it. Just kind of like it's been sand papered LOL. But living in SoCal, I'm going to get maybe 10-12 wears out of it a year, so I definitely want it to be spot on, otherwise it's just going to sit in the back of my closet.

A very interesting way of leather processing, certainly not for everyone, but still I guess someone could use it as an inspiration and apply similar approaches on a jacket?

To me it seems that the rough side of leather is facing outward and has been partially polished. Yeah some fashion treatments, but doesn’t affect the thickness of leather and you can still make a hefty jacket out of it.

I've got these rough hide boots of which some parts are polished. The shine only lasts on parts that don't crease. Once the leather creases it will loose it's shine. Therefore I don't think this will work on a leather jacket. Too much creasing.

Reminds me of this Schott/3Sixteen Oiled Rough Out. Not identical obviously but probably as close as a jacket can get. It’s near the top of my wish-list. Long been sold
Out but maybe will pop-up used somewhere.

The word on the VLJ is that this is an Eastman with a wonky hanger, and not a GW label.
The leather on his RRL car coat looks amazing.

thanks for posting this concern/assessment. I would think folks there would know pretty quickly. The label looked familiar, the jacket looked to be quality. Does John put his personal label in all his jackets? I've not owned one of his A2, I've owned a bunch of others and I don't even remember!

I hope someone informed this seller of the identification of that jacket.

I don’t think he puts his name in the A-2 reproductions. Someone pointed out that the reproduction label was different. They also said that they ran it by JC and he said it isn’t one of his. It still looks pretty good to my untrained eye.
