If we need jackets in this thread to keep it in outerwear, here ya go.

Some pics of me trying to match my boots with my jackets as well as possible:

So why are we discussing mostly boots and shoes in the Outerwear section? I have watched this thread since its inception wondering if it would stick with jackets—it hasn't

There is a Forum where this is more appropriately discussed—As in General Attire.

Is there a reason why I shouldn't move this thread to the appropriate section?

Because otherwise it will “thrive” like the belts thread that was moved a couple of months ago in General Attire. This is a long-running thread please don’t make it disappear.

I can only echo what others have said while parroting my theory that alongside with jackets, boots are pretty much the epitome of Outerwear. Plus the thread is kind of about jackets, too.

And another thing purely from a personal standpoint. While I love pretty much literally everything being posted to the Outerwear, TBH, much of the stuff in General Attire I can barely stand looking at.
One of the biggest drawbacks about being passionate about fashion is that I can't stand indifferent toward something I dislike. So if this gets merged, for instance, with a general shoes thread, I definitely won't ever click on it out of fear the photo of those black and white fancy shoes will pop up. Y'know, the ones with holes and ridiculous ornaments and... Ugh.

I like Outerwear a lot. It's a rebel of the FL.

Very cool!

Tho, what I'm beginning to notice about (perfect) matching is that it turns out so neat that the pieces kind of cancel each other. Everything sort of becomes one thing. or rather, a thing. Like, the fact that the color and material is so perfectly matched overrides the uniqueness of the two items so they don't really get the attention they deserve. Dunno, just how I see it.

Because if you move it to the "appropriate section" this thread will die immediately, like my thread titled "Headwear to wear with our jacket". Right after I started it in the Outerwear section the thread got furious response, 5 or 6 replies in an hour. You moved it to Accoutrements or whatever the "appropriate section" is called, and the thread died immediately. I quite frankly do not understand the obsession of killing good threads by the mods, but whatever.

I think you make a good point here. I used to perfectly match my leathers. I wouldn't wear a pair of shoes or boots if I didn't have a perfectly matching belt. I even matched my duffle bags, watch strap, bill fold and what have you. A couple of years ago I realized my outfits were too much polished. Too much perfection. Everything so perfect it simply became boring. Some examples

Now I like to mix and match a bit more. Of course I'd never wear black shoes with a brown jacket but seal brown boots with a russet brown jacket can make a great, playful outfit. I think the Italians actually have a word for it: 'sprezzatura'.

I googled sprezzatura in Google images and I think a good one is not easy to pull off. But it can look fabulous. Interestingly, no leather jacket images on a first page or two of Google image search. We have to get out of the leather jackets and jeans trap and try more sprezzatura with our jackets!

Sharp indeed!

Yep. Agreed. Mixing is a lot more fun and more colors, the better. Most important part of any such casual(ish) outfit is that it doesn't look like a conscious effort has been taken to assemble the outfit, which is something that the excessive matching will betray. Besides, I don't think brown & black clash at all.

It's kinda like... For me personally at least, if I see a perfectly matched outfit, I only register color and the general style of whatever the person is wearing, while ignoring the details. Like for instance, without double checking, with no amount of certainty could I tell you what kind of boots is Dude wearing with that brown cross zip. But if unmatched in color, every piece will stand out and I believe that whoever's looking will be more inclined to take notice of what's what.

And I've noticed other people react similarly. I was going out with a few friends the other day and I wore my cordo CXL CR and cordo CXL Vibergs and everyone commented how the leather color is perfectly matched. And it annoyed me to an extent, though I'm not sure why. But the outfit stood out in a way I'm not sure I particularly enjoyed.

This thread got 1337 replies and 99370 views in just under three years.
There are no thread in all of "General Attire" with that much traffic that are not at least 10 years old, most are much older.
If you move that thread it will die...
Most of the Outerwear crowd never goes to the other forums, i know i have never looked at "General Attire" in the 8 years i have been a member.

I had the same experience wearing my Good Wear Arcadia and a pair of brown Wesco Engineer boots. A friend at the coffee shop mentioned that they were a perfect match and the other guys all quickly agreed. Made me a bit self-conscious since it was not something I had noticed when I put the jacket on and I felt like I had to explain that I hadn’t done it on purpose or something...
