Super! But it's not Proto-Homburg. It's a Curled Brim Soft Felt Hat which was common in that time.

Thank you... never heard of that hat style before. I noticed that the brim didn't have the satin edging, and also didn't have the satin band. Has the look of a Homburg. He would have been a bit young career-wise to have worn a Homburg at the time; though he was a snappy dresser (my dad said his mom referred to him as "Mr. Dude"). Thanks again for the information.

A Homburg Hut/Hat is a type (see this thread) of Curled Brim Soft Felt Hat. The Homburg Hut/Hat was brought back to England from Bad Homburg, Germany by Edward VII around 1880. The company that made it was PH. Möckel Hutfabrik, Homburg vor der Höhe, Hoflieferant Sr. Maj. d. (Seiner Majestät des) Kaisers u.(und) Königs (Official supplier to his Majesty the Emperor & King) und Sr. Maj. d. Königs v. (von) England ("Official supplier to his Majesty the King of England").

Here is some information from my website about PH. Möckel Hutfabrik, Homburg vor der Höhe and the Homburg Hut (Hat).

"Homburger Hat Story" from "Gut behutet" Hat Museum of Bad Homburg v. d. Höhe (1985)

https://germanaustrianhats.invisionzone.com/topic/294-homburger-hat-story-from-gut-behutet-hat-museum-of-bad-homburg-v-d-höhe-1985/

From above booklet. Edward VII is center (sitting) wearing a Homburg Hut/Hat (most of the others are also wearing Homburg Hüte/Hats). You can see the shape / characteristics of that time (1890).

Fig. 8: The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII of England and other famous bathers in Homburg around 1890. Photo Museum Bad Homburg. The "Homburg Hat", which the fashionable Prince had raised from the baptism, pushed the cylinder and bowler, the previous favorites on men's heads, in the truest sense of the word to the side.

I can't cover the entire history of Soft Felt Dress Hats.

This is a brand that doesn't show up much, which is why I bought it even though it's another black homburg (and a bit roomy for me).
Vanzina Extra in black. Qualitá Extra according to the liner and sweatband, but label says "nadir" as the quality. Great hand to the felt and shapes easily. Brim sits at a good 5,5cm and the crown is quite tall at a good 11,5 cm at the center dent.

While I was shopping I found this one as well. I have a ton of hats in this colour scheme, so I don't need another, but...
Kohlndorfer homburg in grey. Size 56 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Liner is sewn in and the label is mostly handwritten, but there's a plastic covering of the crown patch. So probably mid to late fifties for this one. The felt is great and has lovely hand, which is part of the reason why I bought it anyway.
Kohlndorfer Velour Hutfabrik Miesbach / Oberbayren was the factory that made it. Steve @mayserwegener's site has some information on the company, but not a whole not is known about them.
Appears to be all original.

I bought this Homburg/Lobia a while back from Stefan, but haven't posted it yet. It was a good choice for the autumn weather that kicked in today.

Borsalino had a hand in the manufacture of the Brasiliano brand at one point.

It's hard to read the hand written colour designation.

I particularly like the tall crown on this one.

It is a very cool one, Steve. I think I had the colour as "perugia".

Greetings! I just purchased a black homburg from eBay. I'm not 100% sure if it's vintage or not but I'm attaching the pictures from the listing so maybe someone can provide information regarding that. Also, I'm aware that there was a Hückel hat company. I'm not sure if it still exists but I've read about them before. This hat says "Hückel Quality" on the sweatband but there is no indication on the lining of a company. Anyone have any ideas on if this is a real Hückel hat or if it's just made using similar techniques or materials? I can of course provide more photos once I've received the hat if that would help.

Hi Christopher, welcome to the FL.
Your Homburg looks like a nice hat, but I'm firmly of the opinion that it's not vintage, nor is it a Hückel as we usually mean when talking of Hückel hats. The company closed down in 1975. Your Homburg is of a later date, probably this century.

Can you take a photo of the whole liner and of any labels under the sweat band. This will help with a better id.

Like Steve, said: not a vintage hat, but probably made by Tonak in the Czech republic. They were once the Hückel hat factory and still hold most of the Hückel brand rights. Post-war the Hückel family restarted in West-Germany to produce some wonderful hats there, but they closed for good in 1975.

P.S. I believe the shield on the liner suggests it was made in the Czech Republic, so probably a Tonak made hat.

I recently acquired this 40s St. Regis in a medium gray. You may have noticed I'm selling my Knox. It's because these are virtually the same color-wise and this St. Regis has a little wider brim.

First time wearing this 40s St. Regis. By the look of the sweatband and liner this might be it's maiden voyage.

And I managed to forget to post my own Staalmeester here as well. Here it is.
Zephyr homburg made by Staalmeester (made by Nehoefa, A Dutch manufacturer). Size 56 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 10 at the center dent.

I'm thinking this one is pre-war, but it would be only just because the manufacturer was founded in 1937 in Laren, province of North Holland, but they moved to Bussum that same year. If the Zephyr branding was supposed to mean it was lightweight, it has to be said that the hat is certainly not that at 136 grams.

Royal De Luxe Stetson St Regis Homburg

28DBCDEA-2313-48AF-B80A-198E012192E1.jpeg

Royal De Luxe Stetson St Regis Homburg
5 1/2 crown
1 3/4 black grosgrain ribbon
2 3/8 - 2 1/4 dimensional brim to curl with 1/2 grey grosgrain binding

Ive had my eye out for a St Regis for while. This one arrived a bit wonky at the base of the crown. So I set out with a nice boiling pot and got to work. I think it shaped up nicely. I’m not sure what cause the misshapen crown. Could have been a slight shrinking of the sweat.. but I don’t think so as the size seemed fine. In the end... I’m gonna go with. Stacking... as the culprit for the weird shape. Seems as plausible a reason as any. But whatever the reason. It’s mostly gone now.
