Darn it, no it wasn't and they'd eaten all over... I'll have to find another bit o wood, pity as the wood itself was quite figured and extremely unique.
Absolutely beautifulWell it's not going to be as large as I wanted but I have managed to save a bit and make a start, this is only a teaser of the base. I find it quite difficult as besides not being as young as I'd like I'm also disabled, hands are contracted closed and can't use my thumbs, try doing your shoe laces without thumbs let alone turning and using tools...all good fun!
But enough of the whinging, seems sometimes the rotted half eaten tree's hide the best secrets..... I'll answer the question myself, I think it's going to be worth following through.. Look at how purdy this timber is.

That is really beautiful; very similar to marble. I really like the look of natural wood, so I'm looking forward to seeing how this project turns out!

Alright folks, have a question and need some help identifying this one so figured this would be a good place to post this. Bought this at an estate sale for $10 and, while I can assume it’s an Australian military slouch hat, I’m not positive it’s made by Akubra nor can I figure out how to date these things to figure out it’s age. Any advice?
New or pre-loved? For a wool Aussie slouch hat New I think RRP is about $150 but you see them often on sale for around a $100-$130 AUD, 2nd hand you can pretty much always find both fur felt and wool so re-sale isn't high and you can buy them used from army surplus stores all over.
