Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I was in my local High Street last week, wearing cammo trousers, a mid blue lambswool roll neck with a Navy WP Vee neck over that. A friend saw me and said it looked good and warm too which it was.

Yes it is a bluish grey. It is not pure wool but a wool blend.

Nabbed one of their Bond sweaters while I wait for my Aero, and also to replace the crappy navy blue acrylic one I got from Varusteleka years ago...

I Don't like acrylic sweaters, I much prefer pure wool. I don't see the point of cotton sweaters either, although some cotton sweatshirts are good. Hope you like the Bond Sweater which looks a bit different to their other garments.

I find a lot of genuine military surplus commando sweaters on Sportsman's Guide. For the most part they seem to be wool blends these days but I did score a Dutch white pure wool commando from the Guide a few years back. Italian military surplus is usually very nice and I like this sweater although I would prefer crew neck. I did buy an Italian Navy military surplus blue sweater on the Guide last month that is a 100% wool crewneck sweater but no patches or ribs like a commando.

So do you all recommend hand washing only to prevent shrinkage ? I have size small which fits me just right. Maybe a little short in the torso. I actually wouldn't mind if it stretched a little bit. Perhaps wearing it when it is slightly damp will do the trick ?

I do tend to hand wash most of my sweaters, however, if I have several to do at any one time, I put them in the washing machine on a gentle wool wash and that is fine.

Hand wash in cold water with woolite or eucalan, or put it in a mesh bag and put it in the washing machine on the gentlest cycle. Lay flat on a drying rack to air dry.
