Drum roll........ #1 is.......
...not announced as of this morning.

@The Shoe
I've been going back thru the last 3 yrs Top 20 seeing what they were, how many I may have sampled, & if still held in high regard. I found Glen Moray 18 was #10 in 2017.

After a good long stretch my luck finally ran out this yr & I had to take Mrs. Claus to the 33rd yr of Christmas in the Park. So I grabbed El Jefe, a Stetson One-hundred & we headed out before the crowds only get bigger & the weather turns worse.

Just a few of the pics I took. Haven't been thru the rest yet.

And now back home it's time for some "milk & cookies" for Santa.

Thanks for the post. Your posts about Glen Moray have given me a bit of a buzz. It’s such an obscure distillery over here in Japan. I really had no idea they were that well regarded.

**For those that missed the discussion a few weeks back, my roots are Scottish - both sets of grandparents were born there and traveled to New Zealand when they were very young (like two or three years old). My parents’ genealogy studies revealed our (distant) relationship to the Glen Moray people and they visited the distillery a few years back.

One I had forgotten about, in 2019 Writers Tears Double Oak Irish Whiskey scored in at #10. Early this yr I had a few shots at the cigar lounge & had bought a ticket to the Saint Patrick's Irish Beer & Whiskeyfest which was to be held on Sat 3/14, & feature Writers Tears. But the fest was canceled the midweek before the 14th as the covid pandemic ramped up. I should buy a bottle.

Hmmm, interesting that this "sweet" bourbon is #1. Post pandemic, I will make an effort to sample some.

Thanks for being our source of news Jack. Late tonight I will have to sip some whiskey to contemplate the news.

Overall I'm not a big Bourbon guy & if I'm in the mood, beyond buying just a shot I generally don't venture past one I know.

After a pot roast beef stew with root veggies & potatoes spooned on top of Old Fashion buttered biscuits, I'm ready for a few drams of a smoky Islay & Wee Beastie gets the call.

It's been an afternoon spent with a Shudde Bros Stetson 7X.

I am a bourbon guy. While I have never had this specific batch (112 proof), their regular bourbon was alright, but left me desiring more. It's at a good price point, I just choose to spend my money on other selections. Just my two cents.

I was able to score a bottle of Old Grand Dad 114. I've heard good things about it, but have never seen it stocked at my local liquor store. I don't have much experience with higher proof whiskeys (over 100 proof), but this one hit my sweet spot. It was unexpectedly smooth for a high rye whiskey at a high proof point. It has a decent nose with a nice body on the palate. The alcohol finish is prominent at first, but dissipates after a few sips. I look forward to revisiting this again.

This is from Thanksgiving and I apologize for the orange table cloth. Ever since reading Eric's reviews I have been looking for breakfast stout. I finally found some in Kernville. I have a new favorite stout! The hop bitterness compliments the roasted barley. A rather hoppy stout which I like. My wife and sister like the chocolate notes. Thaks Eric!
