Brock hats

I wish to add to this thread showcasing Brock Hats manufactured by the Wolthausen Hat Company. Wolthausen also made Kennsington, St. Laurence hats and hence I have included some hat pics. Wolthausen also made licensed Stetsons and I have included one of those.

A back bow Brock fedora in a chocolate milk brown hue.

A Kennsington in a blue felt with a unique crown feature.

A Brock fedora in a camel hued felt:

Eric wonderful collection of the Canadian beauties! I bet some of the overwelts will look also great brim up as I guess was used to be the case back on the days. Congrats!

Question: Did Wolthausen make any licensed Borsolino hats? I have a couple of Borsolinos from Hurleys that the felt and details are nearly similar to the Brock/St.Lawrence/Kennsington hats.

Morning escapades find another opportunity to sport a different Wolthausen St.Lawrence. This felted fedora is a unique hue. I find it to be similar to the Winchester felt sold usually as granite. Granite appears to have some pink, white and brown in the gray dominated hue. This hat does show the brown in sunlight. Our gray skies today cast it grayer than it is.

What is the hand of the felt like? The hats look to be very nice quality.

The felt of the hats I have acquired via Ivano Andriani to be of dynamite quality.

I find the brim similar in thickness to the unlined 40's Stetson Playboys that I really like. The welted brim treatments give the brim some weft and ability to not change in a strong wind (like the Playboys. The crowns vary in thickness, but to a 1 they easily take a crease. You know how a thinner felt can take a crease and show a sharp edge. These crowns can take dramatic creases but do not show sharpness.

When I run my fingers around the brim they are even in thickness and uniform in density. The density throughout the crown is also uniform. I have many vintage Stetsons where I can find with my fingers uneven spots. These are well done.

Sir just some off the cuff observations. Hopefully others with richer vocabulary and experiences can contribute.

BTW: The transactions were terrific. Ivano Andriani is a stand-up fellow for both the communications we exchanged and the transactions.

You are very welcome Ivano. Glad you could chime in sir. What is the providence of the Borsolino hats? Did Wolthausen make any licensed Borsolino hats?

A breathtaking parade of fabulous vintage hats, Eric. The colours, shapes and workmanship are truly outstanding. Glad they found a home with someone who'll take the best care of them.
I'm not aware of any license by Borsalino to Brock that early.

I do not believe that Wolthausen did anything under license. The research I uncovered shows that Wolthausen sold plant to Stetson in 1930. However it looks like Stetson only bought them to facility getting their US Amadeus hats into Canada. This explains why we keep see Wolthausen advertised up until about 1935. It’s in 1935 that Stetson comes out of the curtains and starts branding or at least Boosts the branding for the Brock by Phrases like “styled by Stetson”. The plant however does begin to produce what many loungers refer to as Canadian Stetson’s after 1935. No license needed as they owned the building and put their name on it until it closed in the 70’s. There is no indication that they Manufactured Borsalino. I’m not sure that Borsalino allowed such licensing.

I wonder who made the Borsalinos made in Canada.
