Speaking of modern ORs, Stetson Japan is getting an open crown OR.

Also noticed that the eBay seller whom seems to get the pick of the litter from the outlet is showing an absurdly priced 100x OR. For some reason, twice as expensive as the beaver Pure Open Road.

I saw that hat also & wondered about the market. I'll bet the seller doesn't get those from the outlet! He has probably worked out a huge discount if he actually sells one for them.

STETSON OPEN ROAD "PURE"
Just saw on Stetson website The Open Road Pure--all beaver @ $395 in Phantom Grey, Alabaster, Tobacco, True Blue.
"With only a handful in production, the Pure Open Road is not a hat you see in the wild very often. Built for true pioneer spirits from pure fur felt for unbeatable softness and resilience, it features a grosgrain hat band and a new 1865 hat pin for a subtle dose of texture. The hand-sewn brown roan sweatband and satin liner provide a time-tested fit and premium comfort."
  • Handmade in Garland, Texas
  • Pure Beaver Fur Felt
  • Cattleman Crown
  • Grosgrain Hatband
  • New 1865 Hat Pin
  • Premier Roan Sweatband With Gold Lacing
  • Satin Liner
  • Brim: 2 3/4”
  • Crown: 4 1/4”

Looks like the liner might be an embroidered Last Drop.

True Blue looks to be more royal blue than navy blue.

I couldn’t help myself with the Stetson cyber Monday sale and ordered one in phantom grey.

Gotta say I am impressed with the felt quality. Brim is thin but firm and the crown is soft. Really nice overall and the liner is a nice touch. Crown height is typical modern open road. If they would have made this open crown and with a taller crown it would definitely be a home run. I’m pretty impressed especially for the price I paid.

I like the Phantom Gray. I think they are missing the boat not offering black. I would rather see a black OR than the Alabaster.

Just picked a chocolate brown OR. I'm a 7 or a 7 1/8 and went with a 7. Fits, but a tad small I think. Have a 7 1/8 on the way and will return one.

Anyway, my first felt Stetson (I do have a well worn Akubra Tracker and a Banjo) and I typically prefer a down turned brim. That said, wow, what a great looking hat and I know that brim will flip down, I think I prefer it up and can't wait to actually wear it dinner or just walking the dog.

Got it today. A hair big, but looks so much better than the size 7 on my head. Amazing hat and I love how it looks with the brim snapped up.

Based on the liner, keyhole size tag, and price, I’m saying it’s a late 1950’s. The felt is thin and soft, and it required steam to hold the crease I have in it. Brim is 2 3/4”, crown is roughly 5 1/8” open. It has let me know that these are my preferred hat dimensions.
