Hello everyone,

I'm Michael, a new member here. I live in the Vail area of the Colorado Rockies. I've been an active member on SuFu for a long time. I've browsed Fedora Lounge for years, mostly for info and references on various types of clothing. I generally try to limit my time allowance on forums, so I read a lot more than I post.

Hi!

I found FL after binge watching Dragnet, and have been obsessed with the 40s and 50s style of dressing for quite some time!

I finally caved and purchased my first nice hat. A fur felt Stetson Chatham! Such a beautiful hat, and looks great with my vintage suits!

Hello everyone,

I've been poking around the Fedora Lounge for many years but now I've finally decided to poke my head in here and say hello. I was a regular at the Electric Speakeasy and Club Obi-Wan back in the day but not as much now. I figured the Lounge is the next logical step.
I've long been a hat guy and I'm got an Raiders by Steele & Jones, a Black Sheep original, and a new Raiders by Herbert Johnson on order. By day, I'm doing fieldwork for an environmental firm and by night plugging away at the old undergrad degree. I've been working on a story set in an alternate dieselpunk-ish 1930s for years now but not much has come of it yet.

Looking forward to being here.

I happened upon this site whilst researching the comparative merits of new and vintage Alpha MA-1 jackets to replace my worn-to-death twelve year old one. I am a Canadian living in UK who is, in the words of Groucho Marx, "approaching forty from the wrong side". I have served in the British army and therefore have developed a good sense of what works (and quite a lot of what doesn't) in respect of clothing. I have ordered a new MA-1 which is on the way. Recently I have acquired a taste for Barbour products and I was fortunate to find an "as new" (really!) Beaufort jacket for £50, so that and the MA-1 will share winter duty. My habitual choice of footwear is also influenced by my service, being Gore-Tex Matterhorns in the winter or a wet English summer and Meindl desert boots on the occasional dry day or when I am in the Canary Islands. I am slightly surprised that there is not a specific footwear forum on here. My wish/shopping list? Next a pea coat I think, probably guided by the eponymous gentleman on here, and an M51 or 65. I would love to find a genuine or reproduction Team Kawasaki leather jacket from the 1970s Yvon Duhamel and Art Baumann era, despite my now riding an old man's BMW RT, on which I still occasionally wear my white and lime green Kushitani leathers, although the knee sliders are clearly redundant! I shall look forward to some sound advice and stimulating discussion.

Hi all. US expat living in the UK. Found this forum whilst researching pea coats. Not a luddite but I do drive old Italian cars when I can, listen to LP records, and enjoy well made things from yesteryear. Trying to up my style game, so here to learn. Cheers! =Tom

Hi, Yes - I don't ride any more, but I used to have a Moto Guzzi LeMans 1000 and a Ducati F1 Laguna Seca before I migrated to four wheels. Very different bikes, but each great in their own way. I road across the US on the Guzzi more than 20 years ago.

This was my favourite, a Benelli 650 Tornado. Later I had a bevel drive Ducati 900SS, before a couple of headbanging Japs, Suzuki RG500 and a Kawasaki Ninja, then reverted to my BMW habit, including my current R1200RT. You are a very brave man making that trip with the LeMans’ riding position!

Great pic. of your Benelli. I bet that bevel drive was a beast. The LeMans wasn't too bad but in the mid-West I did run into a side wind that was extremely tiring. I tried to ride next to a semi for shelter but he wasn't having it. The bike was constantly at 15 deg. angle. The only issue I had was that the nut on one of the headers loosened and went AWOL.

hello, my name's Ash. I've finally got around to joining this site after lurking for a couple of years, and then forgetting what it was called! I love the big band era and listen to that style when im chilling but i also like rock n roll / rockabilly.
After escaping the rat race in England, i now live in Ireland with my family and have turned my love of collecting period items into a small business. For once i'm happy to be at work!
Anyhoo, looking forward to getting involved in discussions on the forum
