How did you make those creases on the CD. My heritage is tough to Open Road.
By Open Road I assume you mean it's hard to open the crown? I push it open by hand then use a little steam in areas that you need to smooth out a bit. I use a large stainless steel spoon like a serving spoon to work against both inside against the liner & outside against the felt, as needed. Don't use a large aluminum spoon as it can leave marks on the felt when wet. A hard wooden ball or wooden egg can be good to use also.

To crease it I don't use a lot of steam or water. I just steam a small area I'm working. Sometimes I think a wet heat is really all that's needed. A bit of heat helps to soften any stiffener in the felt. If you have no way to make steam, try a misting bottle & a blowdryer on low heat & fan.

I have a wooden rolling pin I use to first set the center crease of a cattleman. With my hands inside the hat at the liner I hold the rolling pin in place on top of the crown after I've sunk the crease for a minute while the felt cools. Still holding the rolling pin in place I slightly steam the area where the long side dent will be. Then with one hand I use my thumb to start molding the felt in & rounding under the rolling pin while still holding the pin with my other hand from inside the hat. Doing one side at a time.

After both dents are in then you can round or u-shape all 6 of the ends, whichever you prefer.

Easier to do then explain, but I hope this helps. My arsenal of hatters tools include a couple sizes of rolling pins, several sizes of spoons, a wooden sock darning ball & a firm racket ball. Nothing fancy.

This is a tan Resistol Stagecoach that I converted a little while back. For this hat I used an M1899-1902 Campaign for inspiration. It's still a work in progress...

Nice! Looks to have a bit of a "Fort Worth Crease" there on the front of the crown.
