It looked a little wider to me from the picture. I was figuring around 3 inches. But, that slightly wider than 2 1/2 inches is definitely working for that hat. It's got a real nice casual looking late '50s - early '60s vibe going on. I like that look.
Check out this guy's hat on the bass fiddle. It looks to be an open road style with a western curled 2 1/2 brim...

That's kind of the look I was going for. This hat's basically an open road style and the sides were already pushed up a little when I got it. I just pushed them up a little more. The guy I got it from said he had been in a bluegrass group and he wore it when he played.

One of those rights of passage for a generation. It's a bit dated now but I still watch it a couple times a yr. I also have the 40th anniversary coffee table book on the making of, that came out in 2009. Would have liked to have gone on the 40th anniversary ride too but couldn't get away.

Playing some guitar this afternoon in my Ritch Rand Tom Horn. My first made custom; we've spent a lot of yrs together. The band was beaded by a friend late in her life. I wish this hat could talk to me.
