Name this shirt..

Salutations! I'm hoping there are enough militaria buffs to help me I.D. this shirt..or point me in the right direction. Obviously what got my immediate attention about this military shirt was the killer collar, it could be WW1 or 2 but i'm no buff.
Any heads up is cheerfully accepted.

Looks like a repro commonwealth shirt. Most early war shirts have large long collars like that.

Try and find an original before you go repro, most sub 100 dollar repros use inferior materials. (Not all, but most)

Actually i beg to differ on this, i thought the photo i upped looks more authentic (and i know the dude in this photo is a hardcore vintage junkie) and because the alternative repro's online look more like banana republic khaki shirts. If i may press you a bit more, can you be specific as to what era you think this shirt is from, by "colonial" i am sure you are referring to WW1 British Army..the link you sent me, and subsequent searches for "WW1 Colonial Military Shirt" reveals no shirt with the spear point collar, that i can find, they all have the generic standard collar.

Also the buttons on the photo suggest "an original" usually the repro's use crappy buttons, also if you look at his vest, thats a WW1 issue military vest, authentic to the best of my knowledge.

I never said 'Colonial', I said 'Commonwealth'.

Now that you mention it, sure, the shoulders look different and the collar might be longer in your photo. I meant to suggest the repro as a similar alternative.

With the quality of the photo and with the shirt largely being covered you will have a hard time precisely identifying this. You can't tell what the pocket design is.

I stand by commonwealth, the rest of the details you can probably get from the guy himself.

the guy in the photo not much on words..that was my first go-to person. The spear point collar design was born out of the 1930's, and this spear point collar is very well made, its the single most attractive thing about this shirt as mentioned . Yes sorry its Commonwealth i meant to say..but even a thorough search revealed no shirt with collars like that. Oh well, it will bubble to the surface eventually.

You might get better luck in your search if you lurk on: Military/Re-enactors/vintage uniform forums. There's bound to be someone who knows that shirt and be able to point you in the right direction.

Before the lockdown I used this site http://www.friendsofthe40s.com/index.php?page=military-clothing for updates on dances, festivals and vintage events. The link should take you to the traders page, but it's UK based. My line of thinking was if you searched for something similar on your side of the pond you could go from one link to another until you get there, just takes a little patience sometimes. GHT- Much obliged. I happen to live very close to a major vintage fair that used to be held once a month with 300+ vendors (pre-covid ofcourse), how i miss the thrill of the hunt..and the nights out dancing..whoaa dont get me started

I'm sure it will get back to that around July/August given the news.

I wish I could tell you 'Oh yeah, thats a US M37 Mustard shirt' but without being able to see the rest of the details, it's pretty hard to nail it down. There are likely several models from the commonwealth alone that have that collar style.

Check the bay for WWII Canadian and British shirts, early war.

UPDATE: indeed its eventually surfaced. Its a WW2 Afrikacorps shirt - which i suspect would be much harder to find than say a US/UK/Canadian army shirt..oh well, its a step forward atleast.

re: SM Wholesale, everything but...unfortunatley. There must be an original hidden in someone's closet somewhere, its always a game of patience when it comes to vintage, as mentioned, i'm really not a militaria buff, but that shirt and a french cyclist jacket are the two items in my cross hairs.
