Man that sounds cool! I actually like my squeaky seal hide the best. It’s the thickest. Feels the most stout. I wish my Starcaidia 2 was in the same hide. Looking forward to your type III. I know it’ll be good!

There is nothing wrong with my seal goatskin but the fit was a big for me in the waist/shoulder so I'm going for a more fitted look this time around.

I hope so, it's a little trimmer all over but the deerskin is more forgiving than the goatskin so I think I can get away with it. Specs are pretty much the same as my last order with Deerskin lined hand pockets, Button snap closure to inside pocket, black silk rayon lining. Although I'll request zippered hand pockets and the western theme logo. Not sure yet if I'll use black buttons or nickel.

Is there a consensus to the best material to line the 5* jackets in? I just told Shawn cotton drill for the body and silk for the sleeves. Didn't get more detailed than that. I know he hasn't even started the pattern yet, so I can update my specs.
I'm not asking for colour choices here, more on material. I like that deerskin pocket idea.

I requested the Black silk rayon cause it feels great against the skin and I don't plan to wear it in cold weather. I do know that it is much nicer than the cotton drill body and satin sleeves they used for my first order

The leather lined hand pockets is my go to now since Johnson Leather recommended it to me, I won't do that for cxl or anything waxy but for I'll go for it in softer leather such as deer/bison etc and veg tanned leather

At the moment i'm thinking about a trucker-like jacket together with Shawn.
I'm thinking of unlined, but the deerskin from 5* is actually too thin for that. maybe I'll take it twice. E.g. the lining made of deerskin ;)
If there are brown plain buffalo 1.4 mm thick, that would also be an option.

Is it actually too thin or too thin for your taste? I ask because there are many examples of unlined jackets made of light sheep leather which work well (albeit modern) like the Dunhill jacket worn by Daniel Craig in Layer Cake.

Yes get one in that make up that will be cool! I'll get a motorcycle trucker next time too, I'll loosely base my design on a thedi jacket and just tweak it out. I may want to use an unusual hide maybe bison/moose

Does anyone know how Shawn measures the shoulder width? It’s usually straight across, but on his website, it shows it measured on a curve? Just finishing the specs for my first 5* jacket.

When he send pics of the measurements on the finished jacket in my experience it’s been straight across.

Yep like what they said, with the shoulders being pulled taut you measure straight across seam to seam

definitely my personal taste. 0.8 mm without lining or second layer seems very thin to me. Especially when the jacket has to be big.
I can be wrong, but the risk is
too big for me.

I hear you. I guess the other way of looking at this is there are many cool jackets made of thin fabric that work well without lining, so 0.8 hide is like heavy iron next to this. My favourite summer jacket is an F2 - about as thick as a high end cotton sheet.

A devil's advocate would tell you that it is perfectly fine and that something like this was common in vintage jackets.

I prefer thicker, at least 1.2 to 1.4mm, for a jacket. But an unlined shirt in this thickness would work well I believe.

Shawn told me they have horsehide now but in limited supply and are reserving it for the Dubow jackets only.
Oh man! I ordered the Dubow in goat recently, but really would have preferred HH. I sent Shawn a message to inquire if it's still possible. Maybe - I have no idea where my jacket is in production. Doesn't hurt to ask. We'll see.

He subsequently told me its under 1mm thick and available in 30 days.

Hmm. That's on the thin side. Might be cool for a warm weather A-2 but that makes me inclined to stick with the goat. Maybe for a second one. Thanks.
