Second hand can work as a good ‘shabby chic’ look. I have some very old Norwegian wool sweaters that have a similar effect - as well as a couple of hand knitted ones from Peru and Ecuador.

I know Suffolk reasonably well but I’m ashamed to say I have never been to Norwich; it’s a terrible omission as I am quite well travelled both in the UK and abroad. Several friends have told me that I would really like it. I live on the SW edge of London having lived in central London most of my adult life and grown up in Winchester.
BTW, itching powder is still on the market and can be bought online very easily!!!

You should try Norwich sometime, it is a fine city, especially since the "Pedestrionisation of Nowich city centre."
I only ended up in Norfolk by default, but I absolutely love it and can't see myself leaving.

That sounds a great idea!!! My interest in itching powder goes back to my boarding school days, when it was a useful weapon.
I think you said you ended up in Norfolk because your father was in the RAF? It is known for being a beautiful county. Norwich is also known for its university (probably more than one now or is its still just UEA?) and its football team.

Shabby Chic works better when there isn't a big stain on the front, that would be Slobby Chic.
This jumper isn't going to have an easy life with me, when the rules are relaxed and everything has a normality to it again it will be used under a leather on my bike.
I expect to wear it to biker rallies, get drunk and sleep in it on occasion.
that is partly the reason I didn't buy a new one.
Now I have a Submariner I keep looking at the Aero RAF Comforts Jumper, but that really is the Holy Grail for me and when I do acquire one I would probably be to scared to wear it.

We just have the UEA in Norwich, I am not academic enough to know if it is any good.
I was actually born in Lincolnshire, when my Dad was stationed at RAF Scampton.
Born to the Vulcan Howl and lived at Scampton until my fifth birthday.
Just outside the first school I attended while I was there was the gate guard, an Avro Lancaster.
This could have a bearing on why I think the RAF Roll Neck is by far the coolest jumper.

Lincolnshire’s a really interesting county which is too often underrated.
We also too often forget that the sweater we usually call the Submariner is equally associated with the RAF (and even the RFC before that).
Have you any experience of the RAF Woolly Pully? I wear mine quite often (I have them in several other colours as well!).

I wasn’t really academic at all until
I got into the sixth form at school (last 2 years: 16-18 for US readers). However I also had to go on playing Rugby through my sixth form years which was a mixed blessing.

A friend of mine and I presented a lecture at a business law class at UEA a number of years ago. Fond memories of that area, which I guess would be Norfolk County and part of East Anglia? I think my geography is right, but it has been awhile.

M Father used to wear a woolly pully as part of his uniform.

I had my first Woolly Pully aged 11: it was Army Green and I soon bought matching Navy and RAF Blue versions. Woolly Pullies have been my ‘go to’ sweater ever since then.
We also wore them in the Corps at school: again in my case Army but several friends of mine chose the RAF section.

All being well I am going on a sea going boat trip in a few days and although the weather on land is not that cold, I have been told bring a warm sweater as it can get cold at sea, so a great excuse to wear one of my wool Sub Mariner Roll Necks.
