I presume that the Pure felts are the same as Excellent quality, but I suppose there's the off-chance it's a different weight because they're currently not using it for open crown hats. Beaver felt generally speaking should be denser because of the nature of beaver fur. Beaver hairs have microscopic barbs which make
them felt tighter than rabbit.

I can't speak to the new hats, though I do like my excellent quality Fortune and Glory. I would more seriously consider either if they were open crown, but that is just my personal preference. The main knock on Stetsons is the poly thread tacking stiches.

Thanks Brent. I have thought many times of adding a Caribou Stratoliner to my hat collection. I am pleased with the Royal quality and I don’t have my Hufvud custom yet, it’s still a couple of months out. I’m thinking, without having a high quality hat in hand, I feel that a custom is a better route than a mass production hat. Am I wrong?

Same product just a name change. Really happy with the thickness of the felt. Craftsmanship and brim snap on a 3 inch raw edge. You can check it out on magill.com. I purchased a gray 2 3/4 brim from JJ. Lighter weight but well made. I can look up the name if you are interested. They won’t be as durable as an Akubra but what is?

I am strongly considering having a custom Playboy or Stratoliner style hat commissioned by M.C. Gannon. I need to reach out to him via email and see what his lead/que time is currently.
