It was just a silly jab, but many of todays jacket producers (mainly the bigger ones) don’t design their patterns to lay beautifully on the body with curving seams and edges. Himel does, Goodwear does, and I’m sure there are others...it makes a big difference when the jacket is worn. I look for these touches when I seek out makers. It also goes to fit and proper jacket length- I feel that the back should sit around the top of your butt while the front should curve down around the hips.

Got it, I do see that and now I think that those could have been done better with just a little finesse. It's little details like this that open up my eyes to the subtleties of jacket designs. Thank you

Yep, a jacket that is actually cut to fit on your body...imagine if others were to do this instead of making square jackets that crease up as they break in.
Update on this @handymike. Looks like it wasn't by design lol for god sake the jacket shrank a good 1.5" after getting wet that's why! It was 22" back length before, now it's like 20.5". No wonder the zippers are loopy and I noticed the lining having more slack.

I just edited my previous post. More slack on the lining and the zippers are not straight anymore

That's a nice idea. And it was a funny line. Are you able to describe a couple of examples of how you can tell a jacket does this from new? Is it just in curves or can you only see it when on?

Mine didn't. When they get whet I always make sure to lay them flat to let them dry, without any heat source.

Got it. I did that, I just zipped it up and let it dry flat on the floor.
Had no clue it can shrink that much. So you just pat it dry and leave it out to dry flat on the floor?

Ahhh but i did remember reading a story about the left/right sleeve that got shorter after a good downpour and motorcycle ride.
It still fits fine in the chest/waist/bottom hem/sleeves seems fine but the back is a lot shorter so I'm guessing it will settle above/around my belt when I wear it.
My jacket got wet a few weeks ago and it seems the back length has shrank a good 1.5" when it fully dried
Sorry @HoosierDaddy, I remembered things differently than they actually went down...senior moment on my part...I’ve edited my posts.
Jackets can shrink as they age and get exposed to water, heat, and other conditions. Several have experienced some mystery shrinkage, but many don’t notice unless the jacket is on the shorter end to begin with.
Show us a picture when you get a chance, it might have just shaped to your body.
