Velour Felt - crushed or matted down marks

I have a Selentino velour finish hat where the finish seems to have been crushed or matted down in a certain area. I’ve tried brushing to lift the nap, but it hasn’t helped much - can one apply steam to a velour finish hat, or will it mat down the finish? Any other suggestions for raising the nap?

You can steam velour without any problem.

No, it’s new. I just tried a suede brush (with the soft metallic bristles) instead of just a hat brush and it helped considerably.

I used steam on one recently with a hat brush and the "crease" in my mine pretty much disappeared.
