One of the Australian dealers for Akubra offered a special order for an Imperial grade Woomera in black a few yrs ago with a two month wait, so I ordered. Converting from metric to inches the Woomera is a 4.01" raw edge brim with thin ribbon X 6.7" open crown & comes with lots of fender roll. And a feather.

Since I figured I would never find a vintage black Stetson BRE in my size one of the hats I had in mind to clone was Alan's @alanfgag.

But once you have a Woomera in hand you really shouldn't need an engineering degree to figure out the blocking used on the Woomera won't take dents or an elongated crease without introducing taper to the equation. And at the time all I had for pencil curls & flanging were a keychain bottle opener, clothesline rope & a wooden brush handle. But I'm happy with the results.

This pic is from last year but I wore it around some and didn't get a recent pic. This is a 3X Resistol that I completely took apart and rebuilt a couple years back. It's been reblocked and restyled. It sports a Montana pinch crease with a mule kick in the back and a curled 4 inch brim. I also added a matching mid ribbon with my preferred up turned bow work.

Another really nice hat there Sir! You guys are bad for me. I don't need another hat. And likely don't ever need another hat! And here I am looking at one because of what Mr. Jones is building.

Ray Holes, was a childhood hero, this likely taken in the early '50s. Makes me wonder how I ever went from a 4" brim to a 4.5" and 5" brim.

Ray and his Mrs. Lillian, sold my parents this Resistol as a birthday present when I turned 8. I wore it for the next 10 years. Learned how to rebuild a hat with that one.

That's a good picture of Mr. Holes. I really like that early '50s Western look...and a good picture of you too, in your youth, and a very familiar Western hat style of the era.

Ya, I know. I was going to order some new felt a while back. But then got lazy and just bought a new hat. It showed up in the wrong brim size. Liked it enough I ended up keeping it anyway.:D Then the right brim size arrived so I had two the same color. That last one still sits in the box. I then decided I needed a different color ;) That one I am wearing right now. No, I really don't need another hat  But another Akubra might be useful :)

Besides the good looking Appy, there is a father and son working the branding pen with the same hat on. (new white hats, center and right) The photos is from Sewell's Circle S ranch, south of Grangeville, in Idaho County, Idaho. Likely most every hat in that photo was bought at Ray Holes shop in Grangeville. Photo wasn't dated but I'd bet mid '50s.

Easy to see why I like Appys. Two of ours.
