I love that 5 Star sends pics with measurements BEFORE shipping.

Based on someone's advice here, I have requested Shawn send me pics of the design first, then the jacket. I do wonder however how receptive he is to changes prior to shipping the final product as I am concerned about a detail I'm still not sure he understands. We've gone back and forth on it until finally he asked me to trust him. :(

I've had this a few times. I got either sample pieces or patterns as photos and I could make changes. on my vest I had the strip on the neck including the buckle changed. all good.

Apologies if I missed it but what's the full process of ordering a custom jacket from them?

The easiest way I found is through Facebook where Shawn is very active, get some dialogue going and tell him what you are wanting & from there you can work with him on how that’s best achieved.

My first custom was a G-1 so I sent pictures of what I wanted & measurements to ensure the correct fit.

Can anybody share your spec of sleeve (armhole, bicep, elbow and forearm)? Thanks
Such pictures, including others with details, are included to an email.
The mail contains the materials (leather, lining, thread, colors), the details to be observed (e.g. thickness of the materials, types of seams, buckles etc.) and the dimensions, as detailed as desired.

I am familiar with your first example, but I believe that cost hundreds of dollars to ship? Still significant comparative savings of course. My understanding is that a length of leather was sent, not a jacket, I imagine that was more expensive. I agree that the result is excellent. I’m not confident in my ability to design a good fitting jacket on the first round! So am looking into where I can keep costs down anticipating that I’ll have to spec a second.
I haven’t seen the examples of other users sending in jackets, maybe I missed them. Thanks for your help.
@Hobbes1
Are you looking to reproduce a jacket you already own? Maybe you can find a user that wants the same model and share shipping costs. Or get 5* to send you a mock up jacket made of light cloth, that shouldn't cost much to ship.
If you are looking for a single budget jacket then shipping may not be worth it, but if you have something nice in mind and are serious about getting it the extra quality assurance steps are worth it.

Your trucker looks great, it's so much better looking that mine. Maybe I should have told them to copy your jackets design but change the measurements lol
I just sent them photos of what it should look like but I don't think the design I sent transferred well to the leather. It still looks like the stock 5* trucker with minimal changes. Dunno but feels a little too busy on the front and the back design seems a little too square

When you wear the jacket, the hand warmer pockets will be toward the sides of your body instead of the front, they will not jump out so much.

Yes they should still look okay and they have zipper closure too soo it shouldn't bulge out so much when worn. Thank you

Thanks for your help. These are good suggestions. Not looking to reproduce a jacket, but want to borrow one component of the pattern (shoulders) while heavily modifying everything else... and then improve on that with a second iteration. I don't think that I could get across the nuances as well as the item itself could. I don't have much experience with leather jackets and less with patternmaking.
I completely agree that the extra steps are worth it. I value custom fit quite high.
The catch is that I don't own the item in question, so have to factor in the costs of purchase and time spent trying to resell etc. Definitely an involved project, purchasing and evaluating a mid range jacket, shipping to Pakistan, jacket 1 price and shipping, plus original jacket return shipping, and then final jacket and its shipping. I think that the value will still remain after all of this! I want that seal goat! But trying to budget it out.

Fellow 5* custom owners I have a question regarding measurements.
When measuring arm hole, is it standard procedure to measure around the arm hole, or straight across. I am having anxiety whether my submitted measure of 10.5" is too tight. I am trying to tighten up the arm hole from my Vanson I used as a model and wondering if I went too far. If straight across is acceptable, then I only tightened it up 1/2", but if measuring around is the standard procedure, then I tightened it up 1". I am a 42/44 depending on cut etc.
Or am I splitting hairs?
I have a slight bat-wing effect with my Vanson, which I am trying to avoid with my 5* custom on order.
I've tried posting pictures as examples but for some reason I keep getting security errors.

Here you go, 10.5 sounds little too small.

I can’t really say if the measurement you gave them would be too tight. I have jackets with armholes ranging from just below 10” to 12”. They all work but I prefer 10-11”. This is how Fivestar measures armhole:

Five star black deerskin modified trucker came today (combination of iron heart type 3 with a aero type 3 collar that I still need to shape). It came without buttons so I placed black two pronged Japanese donut buttons to complete an all black trucker look. I said it before but this deerskin is just nice, so buttery soft and drapes very well. The silk rayon lining is also so nice against the skin. The zippered hand pockets with #5 black oxidized Ykk zips are nice it also has a nice looking pull. The deerskin lined hand pockets are also a nice touch to it. I was not sure with the design Changes I made but now that I have it, it's just another 5* win.
