Phillips 66 Half-belt Steerhide jacket-c.1950-Size: 46/48

Phillips 66: This is the 4th jacket with the Phillips 66 patch I have seen. The first jacket had the patch, the other three I noted because I recognized the jackets. They came in Horsehide and Steerhide. Both variants appears identical with the same light lining and not manufactures tag. I assume they were made for promotional use and ordered as is with patch attached.

I am typically most comfortable in a size 44 and this jacket is big on me. It measures to 24/25" across the chest, 20.5" across the shoulders, 24.5 long. In althea videos and fit pics the belt is fully drawn tight. The jacket really blouses out below the half-belt. I'm thinking this in part the size and also the design of the jacket. I have jacket with the same effect and it is smaller in size.

CONDTION:

Main zipper is a Talon clone by Adams. It works well and both sides are well sewn. The lining is light weight and overall very nice condition none of the typical loose hem, torn lining issues. Both pocket bags are good. The sleeve ends are not tattered and worn. There are scuffs on the right arm lower as pictured. Some scuffing on the upper right arm, also pictured. Both upper arm and shoulders area are very good. The inner collar is fine with no flaking and wear. The collar is huge and cool. The original Steerhide tags is still sewn in.

I have conditioned the upper arms/shoulders and collar. The remaining jackets needs to be cleaned and conditioned. I will leave that to the next owner.

I prefer Black finish. Traditional half-belts are not often seen in Black so this is a plus to me.

The condition is solid, without need for additional mending. The look is vintage.

Sorry the jacket with the patch is only an example like the jacket in the service station shot.

The jacket for sale is missing the patch. I just saw an original patch on ebay! Could be fully restored.

You and I remember when people came and filled you tank!!!!!Heck we were the guys doing it!!

In Oregon, its ILLEGAL to fill your own tank!!!!!! Has been forever as far as I know. All stations are Full Serve up there. Its weird IMO. Gas jockey is still a permanent job in Oregon.

My family is in the gas station business and has been since the late 60s. We have several 76 stations here in California. Their parent company is Phillips 66 out of Houston. I don't think we've ever had that brand out here in California---at least---not in my lifetime. I deal with P66 regularly in my work in the family business. I saved those old gas station photos. My Dad opened his first station in 1969 when he got back from Vietnam. It was branded as an ARCO station after a few years. I was raised on gasoline fumes!!!!! For some reason I've always liked the smell too..........

Too Cool! This jacket will be perfect for you. Light lining will work in Southern Cal.

I recall Phillips 66 in the 60s/70s here in Illinois. Back when there was a station on every corner even in a small town.

Yes, we have many closed gas stations here, many others have been torn down.

Of course, I remember when you just said "fill it up", and they replied would you like me to check the oil?, They would even check tires, and water if you wanted.

The first time I visited Oregon in recent memory, I was quite taken aback when a young man approached the open window in my car.

yep, had no idea Oregon had full service. I recall may pump your own in Colorado in 1970. You went in and paid them pumped what you paid. Nothing like that in Illinois for years after.

Pricing like this sorta cheapens the vintage market. Creating a false sense of worth. A sense that most people have. Buyers are no more Fools than the sellers, or both are fools.

Agreed!! Prices like that are fishing for a Sucker buyer. I don't think there are that many suckers out there for this kind of stuff. Its the people WHO KNOW who will buy it and the people WHO KNOW ---KNOW what a reasonable price is for these things even if opinions can differ some. Suckers aren't educated and those ridiculous prices can scare away REAL interested parties. Not a smart selling tactic IMO.

Terry, I hope you go all out on the copy for this listing. I obviously know the jacket----there is certainly a long and interesting history there as you too are well aware. Gotta educate the masses brother!!!!

You may want to reference the article I sent you when we were comparing these jackets last year. Go back into that conversation if you can---I think I linked to some historical info that the lounge and any prospective buyer would find interesting and I think it would help with the sale (that is, if I don't grab it---I'm trying to resist). I don't want to say too much here and steal any thunder...... Maybe review our exchange from last year for that linked article.

Love the 66. I can’t wait to see the HH Police jacket.
