What kind of Knox is this?

I picked this up from a novelty collector in Kentucky. From what I can find online (early Knox catalogs), it looks like something offered around 1910 or so. But what is it? A bolero? A gambler's hat? Any insights appreciated!

Which side is the bow on? It looks like a woman's riding hat.

It's on the left as you wear it. And it's really big inside. I'm a 7 3/8" and there's room to spare on me.

I think the large size and that type of "compression" lining was for ladie's hats that were worn over hair that was put up.
