I'll Lock Up

If my measurements are good, it’s all decorative anyway- I shouldn’t need to cinch it up.

That was my original way of thinking back when i joined TFL.
Now i think differently, IMO a jacket with side cinches looks better when there is a little bit of cinching going on than it does with the straps completely loose and the side panels completely flat.
If i see side straps i now want to see the side panels a bit bunched up, it doesn't have to be much, but i want some cinching.

I would actually order the jacket with a little bit of extra room just so that i can cinch the side straps up a little bit.

Thedi CR fit questions:

I'll try to keep it short (though after lurking for awhile temped to ramble and ask a lot).

Ordering a custom Thedi cafe racer through Thurston Bros. and would like help regarding fit. Just received the fit jacket - pics below. (I will ultimately be going with a pattern without the quilting, just using the Phenix for fit)

Also want to thank for all the advice I've gleaned thus far; saved a lot of guesswork by acquiring some "fit" jackets over the past year or so...and came across someone trying to unload a Premier Highwayman for a decent price. Admittedly is nicer and more expensive than what I thought I would end up with - lucky to have an understanding wife. (pics of that below as well since the Aero's measurements are slightly different than the fit jacket)

I'm 5'9", 38" chest, pre-pandemic/pre-fatherhood wore 29X32 jeans though should maybe start buying some 32X32's

Apologies for picture quality, it's late here in the midwest. Finally got my little one to bed and this is my window of free time.

I think it looks good. Maybe a little less on the shoulders and add a touch to the sleeves- hard to tell with the bulk of the quilting. I would also look into a slightly taller collar.
The Aero looks fantastic, great pick-up!

Thanks!

Yeah, agreed on sleeve length. Also opting for one of their designs without the quilting. Looks remarkable in person, but personally don't think I have broad enough shoulders to pull off the added bulk...and don't ride anymore.

Very happy with the Aero thus far. Original owner didn't wear it much so happy to break it in (part of the fun as far as I'm concerned). Was also from Thurston, done in the Blackened Brown Vicenza, so can't wait to see some of those warm tones show through.

I think the fits look good. We’re the same size and with thedi i had found the stock small a little too small and stock med a little too big.

Thank you! Yep, not surprisingly I'm usually in that same boat with most stock sizing. The fit jacket is size small and seems to work. Though I do have small shoulders for my frame. (something I didn't know about myself until this process) I'm more likely to bulk up to a 39" chest than I will ever be am 18" shoulders...so I'm just trying to figure out what patterns work best for that.

Found another interesting jacket style, I think I've seen it before but I can't put my finger on it.

Anyone seen these kinds of longer length double breasted jackets with a zipper? Is there a name for the style? I think I saw a vintage M-69 transport coat with a zip like this before.
Also, do Raglan sleeves really allow for more mobility than set in sleeves?

The Thedi looks like a great fit already. If you plan to layer then maybe add 1-2" in the body but if you want a trim jacket then just stick with that jackets measurement and you'll look great in it.

The premier HWM looks like it was made for you and to have it in the blackened brown is a plus! Awesome situation you came to. Congrats.

Thanks! Very high praise from someone who sure seems to know what 'made for you' should look like - seriously your FL Frankenstein is just awesome.

Going for a trim look with the Thedi. Just moved from Cali to the midwest and want a CR I can put on over a t shirt during what passes as Spring up here. No work dress code even sans pandemic so mostly in t shirts anyway.

Credit to Carrie for weathering a number of emails about questioning 0.5" changes here and there. Struggling to just leave a good fit alone.
