For many of us there is also a significant time difference when communicating with him. Last time I spoke to him about a jacket I didn't even go for it was 2 AM where he was.

The time difference is indeed a problem. For me, email and Facebook were too slow, then we started to chat and call on WhatsApp and it was all good from there.

Trimmed the front back and sides. It’s not perfect, but mostly doesn’t look like I’m wearing a shirt anymore. Am I happy? Nope, but this is as good as I’m going to get.
My 5* exercise is now over, Aero Sheene fit jacket arriving soon!

Now this looks like a great jacket. Those alterations really did the trick. This is something I would wear (and I'm pretty nit-picky). Look at how perfect it looks when you wear it closed. Congrats.

Did anyone ever try a mathematical approach to his body measurements? Like measuring out how much other companies add or subtract to chest and waist Measurements .Do they subtract 10% from chest to waist or 8,5% . I am thinking about getting a seamstress/pattern designer freelancer from fiverr to get a more professional approach.
Because I don't wanna spend 1000€ to get a 350€ jacket to fit .I don't really want a v2 or V3 .I have really messed up proportions because of medications I had to take .90 chest 70 waist .A mix between XS and M

I once made an excel, which calculates the jacket measurements based on body measurements, material thickness and the required space. quite useful as a first approximation.

There is a thread started by Holly of Aero that explains how they base their measurements according to the year/vintage they are aiming for. It uses a size 42 as an example. It's doesn't entirely answer your question, but it's helpful. Here you go:

Thank you guys .I hope my buckles and tartan wool lining arrive soon so that I can send him my luftwaffe jacket to replicate and alter. I also send him a Vintage Vanson A2 seal Horsehide for a relining .Repairing the collar and new cuffs .Maybe my old lining and some leather pieces can be used as a reference colour .I don't know how close Vanson is compared to a original or to five star .I want to get my money worth when I send something to Pakistan

Thank you - I will use those (and see with the seller about the biceps / forearm sizing)
Ignoring the weirdness to reply to myself - the order is placed, though I left most of the custom ideas I had out to go with something relatively close to their standard model (with the proper measurements of course).

Now just to wait for the jacket to arrive and if I'm happy with the fit and finish, the ideas will be implemented in #2 in a different color :D

Hi,

quick question for he Café-Racer specialists here:

As I do not have a similarly cut jacket available, I was wondering if there was a usual "conversion" from body measurements, to the ones to be given to five star (mainly arm hole, biceps, etc) - for the chest, as suggested on their website, I took my measurements + 10 cm and had planned to do the same for waist (maybe +8 to keep in line with the %-ages).

For the jacket, I was thinking of a reddish-brown heavy leather, clean upper back, shoulder seam and sleeve seam to be in line and (something I would never have thought of before) rounded shoulders.

Any recommendations what I should absolutely not be forgetting to make the first (and if it works surely not last) order a decent experience would be highly appreciated
There’s something called “chest ease” and you should read up on it

Ken can complain all he wants about 5* copying Aero's designs but clothing design is not protected under trade or copyright law. So even if Shawn would go and buy an Aero Bootlegger, take it apart and make a one on one copy, there's not a single law in any country that would prevent him from doing so.

Using Aero jacket names (eg Bootlegger), that's a different thing. That is, if those names are trademarked by Aero.

Yes, they both know that, I think Shawn try to avoid been accused that all his civilian jacket are copy of other maker.
That's really not a big deal, Fine creek copys Vanson 's model f, Langlitz colombia copy are everywhere, some Lost Worlds model are copy of Schott.

yeah, I think mostly names, he should come out with different name, so when general people google jacket names that belongs to aero it won't also get to 5* a lot more affordable alternative borrowing the same name + similar enough design, it's not fair like you make your jeans and call it 501

Thanks, I want have Shawn to make "Highwayman like" jacket based on this model, I was hoping to see a fit picture (not selfie). Does this jacket has front drop?

It has a small front drop.
I've been unsuccessful obtaining any non-selfie pics though.

I'm curious how's the leather evolving after some time, I've got the steer too and by looking at your pictures they seem very similar apart from the colour

I'm not convinced about the buttons on the design I made and I tried a comparison on a Flat Head that I really like how it fits and I kinda like the zipper version better.

With a zipper, I also have more room for the hand warmers and it gives a cleaner look. What's your opinion on this?

PS: I didn't try too hard on those buttons alignment so don't mind that :)

I think not only the zipper vs button aesthetic, but both jacket will wear very differently, with button realistically you will button 3rd and probably 4th button, sometime 2nd, very seldomly or never all, or never buttoned, zipper only have half zippered, full, or never.

if you plan to wear it open most time zipper is the way to go much cleaner look more balanced, if you plan to wear it half closed more to me buttons is a lot more flexible and look cooler, will not getting paunchy around the tummy when you sit down.

with zipper, I somehow find myself never to re zipper my jacket back if by any chance I unzip it during the day, zippering back a jacket after I stand up feel very unnatural in social setting, you do it with both hands and take a bit of concentration a very deliberate action , while buttoning and un butonning 1 button feel very natural non intrusive at all and I do it all the time.
