In all these years I've never had anyone reach down in my back pocket trying to grab my unseen wallet. I don't carry a long oversized billfold, though. BTW...that seems to be the fad now too. Guess if your going to have it sticking out and showing, you need to have it attached...:p
since that is clearly directed at me,

no it's not a fad, it serves a purpose and going to stay
I carry bifold wallet all my live and carry it in my jacket inside pocket, I never had a problem before, because when I withdrew from ATM I gave it to my grandma to kept in her bag, and I only have little cash with me to pay for petrol and small things I buy.

now since I live by myself I have to carry all the bill and see the problem of bifold wallet.
The money in it always look half folded and crumpled the more bill in it the more it get crumpled and in country with pretty much cash economy I carry a lot of bills and coins that makes my bifold exploded everytime I come from ATM.

So I have 2 option, to get a better wallet, or to get a wife.
weighing from past experience and career I pursue I chose the former.

Since I moved to long wallet it is still a bifold but not a billfold, they are just flatter, and neater, even crumpled change money I receive get flattened and look much neater the moment I use it to pay to someone else since the bills are laid flat vertically inside and not folding along under the wallet spine, also a lot more slots for different bills, and receipts.
Accidentally this transition happened when I also moved into denim thing 2 years ago, and so I bought this vegtan long wallet with clasp and concho, then I have 2 options, either I buy a veg tan man purse and put everything in it and carry it around, or put leather chain to it, and chose the latter
and the wallet is natural color, so I want it to get darker too.

I work in creative field, never wear suit, and work from home so that wallet is sitting on the desk 99% of the time and not causing me spinal problem so it's all good.

Thank you, looks great to me but I get it if you prefer a looser fit. I'll have to see how the leather will be in time. I saw the CR is goat. How's the leather comparing to the steer?

Honestly, i like the goat better. Steer is fine, nothing wrong with it. But, the goat feels a little better and i just like it better.

Chain wallet is a must. I had a chick try to lift my wallet at Wrigley a few years back...were it not for the chain she would’ve made off with it. She immediately realized the error of her ways when I screamed she grabbed my junk and pointed at her running away. Sometimes I conceal the chain. Sometimes I don’t. ;)

Atleast buy you a drink first. . .

Well I’d imagine a town in central Indiana that’s 1/16th the size of Chicago is likely less prone to such encounters? The irony lies in the fact that stealing my wallet actually puts the thief in debt.
I should probably encourage it.

Do you think all chain drive wallet wearers are concerned with pickpockets, or would you say that so many here on FL wearing one comes across as more a fad..??

I dunno. Chain wallet is about as common as shoes with laces these days. I mean tbh I’m not concerned with pick pockets at all but it did prove useful once!

Chain wallets look super nice aesthetically and the added security is a plus, but I find them extremely cumbersome and annoying to carry around on a practical level, plus sitting on them is uncomfortable as hell.
You can potentially get a sprained butt muscle if you’ve got a desk job and sit on it all day long. :D
sitting on any thick wallet inside one back pocket can cause spinal injury, when I sit for longer time, I either put my wallet out and put it on my lap or when at home I never sit with it in my pants for a long time, ideally any wallets is carried inside jacket inner pocket, but with several jackets on rotation, there is a potential problem leaving the house with the wrong jacket:confused: if you don't develop strict habit of taking your wallet out of the jacket once at home.

anything taller than your pocket is easier to fall out since the pocket doesn't seal it in and when it does it happens behind you so you don't see. you can accidentally leave it in the car if during driving you put it on passenger seat or on your lap. the fact it is chained to your belt it is so the wallet will yank you and make you aware when it leave your pocket for whatever reasons.
why labelling it as fad? fad is temporary like jogger jeans or dalgona coffee. :)

The belt loop chain or cord attached billfold seems to have become quite the fashion on the FL lately....

Yes, that's why I take mine out when sitting... I mean my Wallet ;)

What do you all have in there, in those big wallets?
I only have something for cards and bills. Coins are loose in the pocket. All together in the front pocket of the jeans. I've only had bills with me out of habit since I've been using for everything Apple Pay.

I haven’t carried cash or bills with me for several years. I only have a small wallet with my cards in them. But I do think we need to consider that some either live in places that are not cash free economies or they for some reason prefer using cash to pay for things.

I’ve never in my life carried my wallet in my back pocket and I never will. IMO that’s almost low key asking to get a pickpockets attention. Not to mention that it sounds hugely impractical to have to take it out of there every time you sit down to not cause spinal injury. And the huge risk (at least for me) to forget to bring it with you when you get up again (my wife think I have early stage Alzheimer’s with how much I forget and the stuff I misplace).

EDIT I think they look great though. I often admire them from afar.

I like that wallet, I need to get myself a nice one(or maybe just make one the way I want it). I only carry my cards and notes too but I used to have coins before and my wallet was quite big and heavy.

in my country here outside supermarket, mall, fancier restaurant or online shopping we pay cash and get change money, if I buy fruits or raw material from traditional market, or meals from less fancier eatery, or pet food, petrol, or even to buy items in convenience store when the total amount is under their minimum value, they prefer cash or I get to pay fee to pay with card. so I carry around bills from fresh bigger value I draw from ATM to old slightly wet slightly disgusting, small changes, I prefer to put them on different slot from my fresher bill

That makes sense, so it's not just fashion for you, it's also needed and that explains a lot. I like it but I don't see the need for myself and I also keep my wallet either in my jacket inner pocket or jeans front pocket since it's not too big.
