Living in the country we always had lots of red hounds around. Their big long thin-skin ears would get covered in ticks & we constantly had to pull them off. One of my grandpa's brothers who lived nearby would give each of his hounds a bowl of beer to drink & after it took effect he would use pliers to pull off the ticks & drop them into a coffeecan filled with kerosene to kill them.
