Jack,
Thanks so much for the reply and the good advice. Very, very helpful. If I want a Range I should just buy a Range! :)

I've now had the CD shaped via steam at Rough Stock Western Wear in Raleigh, NC by their hat man Jose' who was easy to work with and very reasonable (in case any Forum Members live in The Triangle area of NC and looking for the help of a shaper). I took the picture of the Bluegrass Green CD I posted earlier and asked him to replicate and he nailed it. I did ask the he make the side dents not so low and it all turned out very well. I'll post a pic eventually...

The Resistol San Antonio looks great! A handsome hat. Thanks again for the advice and taking the time to reply and post the pics.

Oh, PS to all re spidering. Check the Silverbelly CD at this Strand Hatters site, expand the pic and you'll see spidering even there(!) and I believe Strand is Akubra's retail shop. Nice site, worth a look and they stock the Bluegrass Green CD (I hope my next hat).
Again, best to all,
Tom

I can't make the Strand link paste to the Forum, so to see the spidering, Google Strand Hatters, go to Silverbelly CD pictures, select the picture with the fedora pinch crease and expand the pic. Can't miss it in the crease.

And for clarity on my post above the only change to the brim of my hat was a flattening of the front.

Gus, I'm glad the hat tech could give you what you wanted. Look forward to the pics.

Our local zoo reopened and my Country Club was called into service for the first time this year...
Okay, here's how dumb I am (for anyone who hasn't already figured it out). I read this, blanked completely on the fact that the hat is named "Country Club", and instead thought, "Why would the zoo need to use part of a golf course?"

Yeah, the last few years haven't been kind.

If it makes you feel any better, I did pretty much the same thing on the first read. In step with the younger generations I work with, I must find someone else to blame, as it can't possibly be my fault. We'll just blame Brent for confusing us! ;):D

Got some Akubras and took out the liners to make them lighter. I figured they are not really needed as i don't use hair gel like they did back in the 50s and removing them lighten themv quite a bit.
Wonder if anyone would want them??

I’ve had my Akubra Country Club for a few years now. It’s been a great hat that looks as good today as when it was new. I hose of off now and then but that’s all the care I’ve given it. It’s lightweight, breathes well, and is cool wearing. I know some people worry about a polypropylene hat being hot, but this is one of my coolest wearing hats. I wouldn’t choose it to pair with a suit, but it looks good enough to pull it off. It’s also nowhere near as delicate/fragile as a Panama hat.

If you’re looking for a hard wearing summer hat that is much cooler and much lighter than a palm hat from SunBody or similar you should give the Country Club a look.

Heres my lineup of Fed IVs. Currently my favorite fedora- View attachment 329550 style daily wearers. Love the Heritage felt and sweatband! Heritage Moonstone (L) , Heritage Brown (M), Imperial Fawn (R)

Great looking hats!!! From the sound of things, I really would have loved the Fed IIIs... I have one of the Adventurers.... I like it quite a bit...

I don't go out much anymore, but when I do I find that I reach for the deluxe Moonstone. The felt is a tad thicker and softer than any of the other hats. The feel in hand is a pleasure to handle. But if I am concerned about the hat getting crushed, sat on, or blowing away then it's the Imperial fawn. The indy hat is fun too; need to give that one more noggin time.

Just wondering if anyone here has bought through Nungar Trading in Australia recently. I did a search and the most recent postings I could find were from 2016. Their prices on Akubras are about $AU30~60 Cheaper than Hats Direct or Hats by the Hundred, but no information about shipping - it gets calculated after the order is placed.
