@Carlos840 that’s not dull but I do think two things apply.

1. isn’t Stuart using a slightly different leather these days? Since he’s so secretive we have no idea if it’s a new tannery, new hides from a new distributor, new tanning method; but whatever it may be; within the last 2-3 years many here have said there is not a huge, but definitely noticeable difference in leather. The new stuff is slightly less armor like and wears in a little bit faster? I think that’s important for new to LW people.

2. grain is different than patina. Which of course you know that haha. I just mean why some might say that though...is because they are used to CXL and CXL like leathers that wear faster, gain patina, or even veg tan leathers that can patina like crazy.. or even teacore. Take all that then they see LW and they may crease and grain but they are not the same. To me I wouldn’t say they are boring- but definitely different and I can see how to the untrained eye people would think this. But someone like you who knows all the different leathers, finishes and variables; you know how to see the unique beauty in this leather.

1: Stuart changed the recipe a few years ago, 2-3 sounds about right.
The two jackets i posted above are from the new recipe, i also own jackets that are made from old recipe leather and the difference is not huge.
Stuart says the break in is a bit faster, but that the end result is almost the same. Having handled both it's not like it's a night and day change, it's a verry subtle difference. I don't think most people would see the difference in a line up.

But i completely understand why people would prefer the whole teacore thing. It's just a different personnal preference.
I just don't want to get into the "which is better" to me that's like asking which is bette: DrDre, Stravinsky or LedZep?
It's not really a question that makes sens...

Agreed on that. I just thought it would be good to clarify for any new people interested in LW to know there’s a new recipe and that LW tend to have more grain than patina. Which is better? Whichever you like. As you said no point in a better discussion. At the high end we discuss here Shinki is great for what it does, and there’s different levels of Shinki for that matter. Horween and it’s million different recipes are great at what they do. Vanson used to have great stuff and hopefully someday very soon that will be true again. Man, what a stretch of bad luck they’ve had. Langlitz and Lewis have their specialty recipes. and yes LW too. All great for different reasons.

There was a lot of difference in the jackets I posted in that video. The lighter weight jackets respond to wear like you would expect, graining patina. The four plus ounce test has never shown much grain. I I've worn that jacket lot. I described it as rough as a roof shingle!

Since getting my fine Creek Virginia Beach in December I have seldom worn my lost world test. It is still hanging ready for service. I think the Fine Creek is a Japanese version of Lost Worlds
