Short jackets are fine with a front drop. A jacket that leaves one’s belt exposed in the front looks like a matador’s jacket to me. I don’t think altering one’s wardrobe to accommodate a jacket makes much sense. This Herc I had was 24” in back but the 2” front drop made it wearable (barely)...If it were blunt cut I may have been asked where I parked my bull.

Well... considering how much all of us likes vintage and vintage inspired jackets, I disagree. I think it makes perfect sense for us to wear higher rise trousers and increase the number of vintage jackets that we can wear without looking like matadors. Of course:

I like vintage jackets too but I have learned I don’t need to compromise my pants to find ones that fit the way I prefer. While many vintage styles were indeed shorter than modern repros, many were not. Comes down to personal comfort I suppose.

Absolutely, it's personal preference. I just find it's such an easy adjustment to make and instantly the number of vintage jackets that you can comfortably wear increases by a lot. But hey, not complaining, more matador jackets available for me :)

I have too much $ in expensive denim but more importantly, I just really don’t like high rise pants, particularly the way they feel. That said, I don’t wear hip huggers either. Mid rise is my preference.

Generally speaking, above the belt is usually not a good look. I think there's a few styles and more importantly the "fun" jackets that can break this rule. My vintage C2 and vintage 618 creep just above the belt line, also 2 of my Cals. But those aren't my every day wears. I put them on to run to the store, go to the back yard, go for a walk, etc. Or yeah, maybe you have a certain "outfit" that makes it make more sense. And that's why the closet and now part of the garage are full of jackets. I'm either trying to justify too much or just having fun. I'm hoping it's the latter. But I can't lie, I wouldn't mind an inch or two on certain jackets I have.

For the usual social or business type setting, yeah, I would feel a little weird wearing something above belt, but it can still be pulled off. You definitely have to own it and walk tall so to speak. Very similar to wearing a hat.

I too don’t mind short jackets and wear mid to high rise normally but not covering my belt is a no starter. Especially the belt on belt effect I find it a bit unsightly.

But then I’m 5’7” so easy for me to say and probably the only advantage that comes with being so short is being able to fit vintage patterns...

Finishing off a civilian flight jacket. 4oz Italian cowhide (motorcycle leather), very soft, horween Dublin. Feel like a Gibson Barnes A2.

I need to get a skiver, some seams was getting way too bulky. The waistband is a bit short but it’s what I had on hand. I liked the pattern, next one will be using better leather!

Love the collar and the chest zip angle is great but I wonder if it shouldn’t be moved down a bit and closer to the shoulder?

Ton you mean the slant chest pocket? it certain needs to move down a bit, i agree, sometimes this type of visual detail can only be apparent after you made the jacket...then, shoot! a long process. but duly noted!
