Gangs of London. AMC. I feel I'm safe in saying now that every episode is going to have one very violent, gory scene. It almost feels like the entire hour is based around that choreography. The team is good and make it feel like a dance ensemble. I'm somewhat impressed. I'm still unsure about the rest of it.

Atlantic Crossing. PBS. They're doing a good job of Roosevelt being a fool. This is an odd series. I'm waiting for it to switch gears and get more into the war.

How do you know you watch toooo much TV? When you are reduced to watching a Prime offering, Bulgarian cop show....."Devils Throat". If nothing else we get to see parts of Bulgaria that we will never get to visit in person.

Also watching Gangs of London after Fear the Walking Dead. Both really good last Sunday. Odd seeing two actors in Gangs, as last I saw them in other roles, their characters had died...

Mayans. FX. Well, folks, I'm afraid we're here. I thought it would be much sooner, so I'm not ungrateful. Two good enough seasons is an accomplishment for Sutter. This season has been ridiculous, and now it has gone off the silly rails like Sons of Anarchy. I'm going to finish out the season, but unless something miraculous happens with the writing, see ya.

American Oz. PBS-American Experience. I'm partly watching this because I'm avoiding the Hemingway doc. I liked Wizard, and this jogged my memory of having two TV stations and looking forward to the next time they aired Oz. I don't think I was old enough to realize they were strategically airing it only once a year. To hop around society and career like he did, you know this guy had some charisma. His family wealth didn't hurt, but you know? Interesting so far, as I'm only 1/4 into it.

You know Sutter is not the showrunner, right?

The wife and I finished off a rough day of work with yesterday's Mayans. An amazing episode, exploring the internecine struggles of the club. Kudos to the writer and director, neither of whom has the surname Sutter.

This last week I've gone back to the early eighties via Youtube and been watching Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. I did see the latter two series when they went back to the show in 2005/6ish, but I'd never watched the whole thing all the way through. For the sort of mainstream entertainment it was back when, it has surprising depth and some very interesting - and deftly handled - social commentary on its times, much of which has come round to being very relevant again.

Now on to season 12 of Supernatural, episode 5 where Hitler's soul is transferred from a 1937 pocket watch into someone of his own blood. As happens from time to time.

Then a season 4 episode of Parks and Rec. Ron Swanson is truly my new hero.

Sunday's Fear The Walking Dead was an absolute corker. Loved it.

Tonight we watched yesterday's Gangs of London, and man, what violent but gripping ride.

Joe Cole, who we know as John Shelby in Peaky Blinders, is tough as nails and cold as a witch's teat once again. Loving it. Also good to see Caitlyn Stark again...

My eldest daughter, bless her, has developed an interest in real crime programmes. I introduced her, until the internet reception went down owing to CLOUDS (ours is over the airwaves in the country), to The Ripper, the Netflix series on the Yorkshire Ripper of the late 70s and early 80s.

Terrifying stuff. One of the photos of a vigils read "he could be next door to you" or to similar effect. That was what made it so horrifying.

Amazing how the police, as they are oft wont to do, jumped to conclusions at several points to terrible effect.

Another Supernatural season 12 episode, with Lucifer inhabiting the meat suit of aging rock legend Vince Vincente as played by Rick Springfield, of course.

Then another couple Parks and Rec, season four, what an absolute hootbthat continues to be!

Wife and I have also enjoyed very much the latest Mayans, an episode in which knowledge comes to one who has little tolerance for disloyalty! Looking forward to seeing how this plays out!

Wrapped up Miss Scarlet and the Duke and Atlantic Crossing. I can't stop seeing Dale Cooper as POTUS. MacLachlan seems to enjoy his role.
We're glad
The Brokenwood Mysteries is back.

I'm currently watching Bates Motel on the BBC Iplayer. Into the final series now, which I believe largely follows the plot of the original film. I'm always in two minds about this sort of "fanfic" project, but it's been very well done and, interestingly, works very well in updating the story to the "present day". Comparison between Norman's actual mother and "Mother" is interesting.

A Discovery of Witches. AMC+. Season 2. It's free week, and it was in the first line of recommendations. I'd forgotten about it. It went straight to a streaming service in the USA. I don't understand why, but who am I? I really like this show, but it's very flawed. It has a great cast that could shine even brighter with a better script, but it ain't too shabby as-is. Teresa Palmer was such a great choice for this lead. I don't know her. I've only seen her on this series. I don't know if she's a great actress or not, but in this role, she's it.

Tonight's Fear the Walking Dead. Another nemesis for the group, this time a cultish band that has been confirmed as behind a series of cryptic messages. A strong story, cleansing our Dead palate of the aftertaste of the "bonus" TWD episodes...
