I know you guys are mostly doing leathers on this thread, but just picked up this Rogue Territory "cryptic" denim jacket. This guy Karl from SoCal is killing it, I try to support these local people when I can. This jacket and the fit is absolutely dynamite! Anyway, I feel as though denim is sort of the Yin to the leather Yang in terms of stables and wearability.

On old Railroad overalls & such I believe that off-set button hole was meant to fasten the fob on your pocket watch chain [to keep from losing your watch]. I've noticed many Japanese Americana brands purposely still include that as a "nod to the past," and now this American guy is copying the Japanese guys copying the old American workwear. Circle of life!
Edit: Here's a 2021 listing for a pair of Dickies overalls which lists as a feature "Traditional dual watch fob openings" on the bib.

Aha! I always thought it was "The TFL-button" to button a second jacket to the front, so that you were able to wear two jackets at the same time...
why do they put a chain on pocket watch? we carry mobile phone "arguably" as important and vulnerable as pocket watch without any chain on everyday basis. while those watches looks like lozenges can, should be sitting safely inside any pockets.

Pocket watches are prone to being dropped and getting lost & it used to be pretty much the only thing you had on yourself that would cease to function in case of a fall. Plus, since they're much tinier than a phone, you'd have to fumble through your pockets (and pocket bags used to be much deeper than today) each time you wanted to check the, well, time.
Even if it didn't break from a drop, if you've missed the pocket bag while inserting it, by the time you look down, chances are the watch has already rolled into oblivion.
Decorative ones were made from gold and have always been a prime target for pickpockets so chain was essential. . . But professionals could lift the entire thing without you ever noticing, chain and all.
