Hi folks,

Since a while I’m looking with envy in this forum thinking I should get a proper leather jacket.
Lately Aero had 25% discount on their stock jackets so I couldn’t resist anymore

The information in this forum about style, leather and sizing was really a great help for me, so I thought I will post some infos here to help other beginners to find their right jacket and for the pros to comment.

I bought a blue label everyman size 38 in black cfqhh it’s a blue label due to some grain mismatch but this doesn’t bother me at all. With the discount this jacket was 520USD. The café racer is a trainee size 38 in cordovan cfqhh. There are some stitching wobbles and some difference in color matching. The whole jacket is on the brighter side of the cordovan shade with some panels in a darker shade. Again this doesn’t bother me at all but it’s a bit big on me on the shoulder and upper arms. With the discount this jacket was 468USD.

I would really love to keep both of them, but I’m unsure about the café racer. I think it’s borderline not acceptable as it is in upper back and shoulder area. Do you think the look will I improve with wear or will it look worse after it is broken in?
The sleeves are on the shorter side for both jackets, do I have to worry they will get too short with some creases?

My measurements are:
5ft 8
155lbs
Chest: 38.5”
Waist: 31”
Hip: 33”

Measurements for the cafe racer are:
Pit to pit 21.25”
Sleeve 24.25”
Back 24.25”
Shoulder 18”
Bottom hem 17.5”

Sleeve 24.5”
Back 24”
Shoulder 16.5”
Bottom hem 19.5”

Welcome to the forum! That’s a strong first post! I like how the Everyman fits you, just like a half belt should fit imo, but the cafe racer doesn’t look good from the back. I’ve seen this with a lot of cafe racers from Aero, they seem to be hard to get a flattering fit with, especially from the back. It won’t look better once it’s broken in I think. I would return it.
Sleeve length looks fine to me on both jackets, but that’s subjective. Some like them longer.

I also think the cafe racer is too big in the back - the Everyman looks v good though, so the Boardracer they do might be a better bet for you than the cafe racer - it is a more similar cut to the Everyman, with a less severe V shape than the cafe racer. Given the Everyman still has a bit of give round the waist I think the Boardracer might work even better for you, as it is a bit more trim there, but without all the “extra” leather across the back and shoulders of the CR....

I wouldn't keep the CR.
It looks good from the front, but far too big from the back. I would say that it is a size too big and that it also turns out bigger.
Especially with the gussets, the back looks massive if the jacket is too big. Unfortunately, I made this experience myself.
Just as an example ... I wear an Aero Ridley in a long size 44. The Sheene / CR in a long 40 and both have very similar measurements.

IMO,definite no to the cafe racer. Plus there are many other cr options out there that I feel work better than Aeros. At least in that style. The Everyman looks good but I’d prefer an extra 1/2 inch sleeve length. Though I like my sleeves longer than some.

I like both.. neither on drop dead perfect but so what..for the price you paid and the fits you received Id keep both. you mentioned these are your first 2 “quality” leather jackets so wear them for awhile and see what happens, how do the fits change over time, see which style you end up wearing more often. Then when you’re ready for the “perfect” jacket you’ll be armed with a lot of info..

based on how the collar snaps to your neck, that is your size in aero cr pattern, many aero cr around here from the photos the collar seems digging into neck or just impossible to be snapped seemingly worn too small from their intended fit, and the jacket looks fine from the front, the back will settle if roomy like that, it is not a bad fit. The other jacket seems perfect.

The CR is a little too big on the upper back/shoulders and the kidney panel on the Aero always ruin the look for me. The half belt looks great overall aside from the bottom hem needing a little trim then it's golden

Quite rightly said, I will support

When you start wearing these jackets, perhaps over time you will like brown more, but you need to spend a lot of time and effort on it.

I think they are both sized correctly but the upper back of the cafe racer is not pretty. I don’t think you need to size down as other have noted the neck hole is pretty spot on already, it’s just the Aero pattern for this style. The stiff nee CXL isn’t helping either but the extra material is there.

The half belt looks pretty good to me fit wise.

Had the same issue with the back on the Cafe Rarer I bought, unfortunately. Too big in the back although it looked fine in the front. I don't think that's going to get better but I'm sure others know more than me when it comes to this. I'd get rid of that one.

I was considering saying send the CR back, then I re-read your post and you indicated: Again this doesn’t bother me at all but it’s a bit big on me on the shoulder and upper arms. With the discount this jacket was 468USD. (This was the CR)

Shipping it back along woud likely cost you $85 (if in North America) and frankly, you are not out much if you keep it, wear it around for a year or so, then sell it along. It's still a very nice jacket and if you wear a backpack, you and most others might never notice it.

Welcome to FL -

Thanks for the inputs everyone,

Does anybody know how Aero measures pit to pit?
I thaugt its with the jacket flat directly under the arms, but if I do that I measure a inch more then what Aero says for both jackets.

@Boyo, that was exactly my idea, to make use of the discount and wear them even if they don't fit perfectly to see how they brake in and how the leather develops before i place a "perfect" custom order. I could think that the cordovan will get too bright for me after some time and then it would be a pitty having paid full price. On the other hand it's a bit silly to own a 500$ jacket which fits much worse then my 150$ one....

@MrProper, that's really cool looking. If that's 3 sizes too big then i would have to order a size 20 ;)
I tried to wear mine with some layers below, but even if put as many layers until i can't breathe, there is still too much leather on the upper back. I see several options for me:1. to buy two dogs, as it doesnt look too bad with my arms extended. 2. visit notre dame and ask they guy there how he got such a perfect Aero CR physik. 3. add some protectors on elbow and shoulder and use it as motorbike jacket. 4. return it 5. wear it some time and re-sell it. mhhhh...

Is it difficult to find someone who can do proper modificaion on such jackets?
I'm thinking of moving the side straps on the EM to the bottom, i think it would look great if I could get rid of the excess lether there this way.
I guess to modify the CR to remove some leather is out of the question.

Cheers

P.S. when considering leather jacket styles for fit, it takes some understanding of their design or pattern to interpret the fit. Also the type of leather plays into these considerations.

High arm holes versus large arm holes. Short length versus below the belt. Action backs versus none. Taper versus no taper. What is your bodystyle/shape? What is your intended use? Leather is not elastane. But some leathers will give more freely than others.
