Sounds delicious and the PBR looks tasty. It has been a very long time since I have had a PBR. I recall my Dad keping some on hand next to his Hams (the beer refreshing).
Excellent NBD with high expectations. Glen 18 I have listened and watched reviews. It sounds like a very special whiskey. I will be looking for a review after you get a few Memorial Day sampling past your tongue.
Settling for Strathisla is definitely a first world settle.

Saturday a glass of grapefruit juice was my breakfast beverage. I thought of mixing some hard alcohol, but declined knowing that gas powered Stihl tools were to be used after a repast.
Yesterday a sipped a Founders All Day Vacation. This is a wheat ale beer. Delicate and finishes with a slightly sweet taste. Not my cup of "beer," and the remaining cans will be donated to my brothers who do generally like this taste in beers.
Coffee in a hat before 6:30am this morning. Caribou Coffee single source Brazilian light roast.
Breakfast, grilled venision suasages and potatoes with a local Omni Lake Day beer. I chose this beer for its name - Lake Day. I pictured a beer for sipping with my feet dangling off the dock in the water. No dangling this morning, but the beer is good. Memorial Day breakfast and beer - Perfect!

Thanks Eric! Later today. The distilleries of the Northern Highlands (above Speyside) have a reputation as being on the mild side for American tastes. Probably best as an aperitif before a meal. I have a small but growing collection of 18 yr olds, & it was on sale!

Just a quick toast for now on this Memorial Day to all my ancestors who fought in 5 wars that I know about, & especially to the 2 who didn't make it back.

No matter what kind of Whisky you like this will strike you as being mild & so very smooth. Not that it's weak (43% ABV for 86 proof) & you can smell alcohol on the nose but there is no medicinal alcohol taste. No alcohol burn in the after taste either. Can't stress enough that you should drink this neat & with a clean palate. Its subtitles will be lost if drank too soon after a meal or with a snack. Totally unlike an Islay.
A silky mouth feel (not thin) with long single legs on the sides of the glass. No smoke but you pick up on the mild Oak flavor from being finished in new White Oak casks. I didn't detect any Oloroso Sherry from the share finished in Oloroso casks before being blended back together. Up front I got the taste of fresh apples & pears, dried fruit pies, toasted nuts, honey & a bit of vanilla (like a vanilla fountain Coke). There may be more there.
In a short after taste I got a cinnamon warming feeling/taste held in check by vanilla (nothing like Fireball Whiskey).
I like it enough that I called & bought another bottle to put back before the sale ends tonight.
PS: Apricots too.

The smooth, clean tastes and smells are dynamite features for me for a summer whiskey. I am quite attracted to this whiskey.
What did the 18 years of aging do to the taste of this whiskey compared to the Quinta, 10, 15 or other offerings?

Thanks Ed. I haven't tried the 10. Glenmorangie is still the #1 selling Whisky in Scotland I believe. There's a time & a place for it in my cabinet for sure.
Thanks Eric. It's a good cordial or aperitif, a porch Whisky. It would certainly make for a good nightcap as well. But it would get lost after a big meal.
The Strathisla I like is a Highlands Whisky but Glenmorangie is my first experience with a Northern Highlands Whisky.

Enjoying the cooler temps (60'f or 15'c) this evening and sipping a Guinness Stout. If I was in control of the thermostat today would be the ideal summer temps (low 48'f and high of 79'f).
Apologies for the sketchy pic. My wife had me replace a couple yard lights with LED yard lights and I have not yet figured out the fixtures settings. The lights stay on too long and are too bright. I will re-read the instructions tonight. I am finding them annoying. The lights really screw up any pics I might wish to share.
