I was hoping something halfway decent would show up when I took a chance on this one. It did. It's not a hat yet, but it will be after Fleur of Penumbra is done with it. No brand panama with a nice fine weave (haven't counted). Consider this the before and in-between stages.

Very pleased with this find: halfway decent panama hats are tough to find at anywhere near affordable prices.

Another gamble hat. I kind of like these: awful pics by the seller, cheap prices and if it works out a winner of a hat. It's like cluedo with hats. Usually the size is the missing clue.
Anyway: Fléchet 7x foulard fedora in black. Size 57 (it turns out) with the raw edge brim at 6,5cm and the crown at an impressive 11,5cm at the center dent. I really like the pre-war vibe this hat has. It should, because it is a pre-war hat.
Sold by J. Lajugie of Brive la Gaillard (or Brive in short). The J. stands for Joseph and he came from a family of hatters. He was born in 1894 and died in 1951.

Not much of a gamble with this one, except that I didn't know the size when I bought it. Worth taking a shot at though.

Hückel Novo velour in black. Size 58 (but fits like a 57) with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at a whopping 12cm at the center dent. It came out of the box in a very unkempt state and it took quite a bit of brushing to get it to behave and get the velour where it shoud be again. It's the first Novo I've seen and I couldn't find one on Steve's website, so a first?
Weighs 136 grams. Likely 1930's.
Made for the French market.

Finally! A 40s Whippet in a rare size that fits my noggin! Am I stoked? Oh yeah! It has been steamed, shaped and refreshed...The brim is 2 3/4 on this piece. As an aside, I have read where brim sizes vary between 2 1/2 and 2 3/4.

Here’s a few custom fur felt fedoras I recently made that are available. Message me if anyone is interested. Hand shaped and hand sewn using traditional techniques.
