Hairspray That Smells Like Hairspray

I love hairsprays that smell like hairspray. Back in the 70s and 80s, I used Adorn (white/pink can), White Rain (white/purple bottle), and L'Oreal Studio Mega Spritz (when it was in the white bottle). Now days all the hairspray seems to smell fruity and nothing like hairspray. The garbage being passed off today as Adorn, White Rain, and L'Oreal Studio Mega Spritz is NOT the same as what I used years ago. So I've been forced to use L'Oreal Elnett, which smells somewhat like the vintage hairsprays, but doesn't come close to the hold of sprays I used back then. My hairstyle would have withstood hurricane force winds back then and never moved.

Unfortunately, even the Elnett doesn't smell nearly as good as my beloved Adorn. Does anyone, who remembers the hairsprays of the 70s and 80s, know of a hairspray that smells like hairspray, and actually holds your hair in place, that's sold in stores today?

Okay. I know this is a weird story. Because of a series of events I will not go into, a decade or so ago I went to see a Santaria witch. She actually had a cauldron with a thing in the bottom that looked like a welded together pile of old railroad spikes. As I understand it it is this element that is supposed to keep the witch safe from the forces they are working with. The spikey thing is made up by a special guy and is quite expensive. Anyway, her way of healing me was to do something to remove the bad essence that was supposedly following me around. She would then take a pull on a reversed cigar (ash end in the mouth) and read the glowing coals to see how she was progressing. She'd then hake a pull of rum, rinse her mouth with it and spit it into (at) the cauldron with a good deal of violence. She claimed that she never swallowed the rum or burned her mouth. It was quite mysterious and dramatic. Before the treatment was over she also sprayed me down with Aqua Net hairspray ... which smelled just like it always has going back to whenever it came out.

Things I learned: 1) If you want to get well you should allow your friends to get you to go to a witch ... especially if you are living in the West Indies and you can actually find one. It won't fix you up but it will give you a great story! 2) The cauldron thing isn't just some Halloween/Shakespearean trope. 3) Aqua Net still was still available 10 years ago and it still smells like the stuff my mom used 60 years ago. 4) I'm lucky to still be here because she was spitting rum and spraying Aqua Net in the presence of a fire that the cauldron was near and there were many candles burning nearby! 5) I don't intersect with hairspray often ... it takes a witch to make it happen!

I was going to recommend L’Oréal Elnett. I hated the scent at first, but now I look forward to spraying it every morning!

I am sorry this story took me so long to read... this is fantastic!

I know you didn't want to go into great detail of why you were there -- I am just trying to figure out the meaning of the hairspray. The only things I can figure out are..

a) The hairspray represented a form of attraction. The "stickiness" of the spray was to attract and hold something to you (like a spider web). Whether this be good energy, abundance, love, ect -- anything that you want to be attracted to you and held (stick) to you.

b) The hairspray was to strengthen a hold represented in something in your life, once again, abundance, a person, happiness, anything. You were afraid of losing something and this was to give it structure and strength. It was not going to move.

c) It was representative of protection. A force field of sorts.

d) You had flyaways and she was trying to be helpful and make sure you didn't go out looking silly. :-D

Am I correct on any of these things?

HA! I have no idea! I sort of thought that a lot of hat she was supposed to be doing was separating me from bad entities/influences, so my take on the hair spray has been the opposite of yours but that's just the story I made up for myself, no telling if it's the truth. There is an additional 6th "thing that I learned" from the experience: You can find ANYTHING in Los Angeles. I used to work in the film business and whenever some production assistant or art department flunky said they couldn't find whatever the show called for everyone in the office would shout at them, "You can find ANYTHING in LA!" and then add the caveat, "If you look hard enough." It's true, from the perfect prop to a Santaria witch.
